I've been a Cary Grant fan since I first saw him and Katherine Hepburn singing to a Leopard in "Bringing Up Baby". Of course, An Affair to Remember is considered one of his most memorable films. But this one was oscure, little known. I wasn't expecting much more than a smile, a heartwarming tale. After all, it's not even distributed anymore.
Boy, was I in for a surprise! I was gifted this in February. It's not quite April, and we've watched it at least 3 times. I have a newly 8 and a 12 year old, and a husband who likes to roll his eyes at my "old" film favorites. They all love it. My husband even laughed out loud and asked how a few of the jokes got past the censors.
I really wish there were some special features on this film, perhaps a little bit of historical background (my kids had never seen leg braces before), info on the child actors, comments from someone still alive.
This is a story of a family from the 40's era. Middle class, they aren't rich. They have big hearts, though, and open them (some more begrudgngly than others) to a few less fortunate children. There are only a few awkward scenes, but the whole of the movie flows well. Tip: watch the boy scout presentation closely and see if you notice the missing words.
I highly reccomend it. Sure, it's dated. But it's also timeless.
Room for One More Overview
Screen legend Cary Grant and Betsy Drake (who were in real life husband and wife) star in a heartwarming comedy about a couple with three children who decide that three is definitely not enough. The comic complications of adopting a few new family members enliven this vastly enjoyable family film.

FINALLY! - S. Temple -
I waited literally YEARS for this movie to come out! I ordered it as soon as it did, and upon receipt I promptly watched it about three times in a row...it is definitely one of my favorites in a very substantial old movie collection...
