As noted elsewhere, I own all the seasons of Reba, and we are currently watching the whole series for the second time. This it the ONLY show my wife has been willing to watch again, and is the ONLY show the whole family loves. Witty writing and great characters make the show a delight over and over.

Very funny film. It could be (and has been) argued that Monseiur Hulot is one of the inspirations for Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean character. They have a very similar comic styling. There are some problems with the film however. One is that Criterion does not subtitle all of the dialogue. This can be frustrating sometimes when we feel like we've missed some of the background action. Also, due to the culture gap that comes from a separation of 50 years and the Atlantic Ocean, some of the jokes don't quite hit home. I was left scratching my head after a few scenes. I knew there was a joke, but couldn't figure out what it was. However, if you enjoy comedy along the lines of the Marx Brothers, Charlie Chaplin, The Three Stooges, etc., then you'll enjoy this little gem. Don't forget to watch the short included on the disc "Soigne Ton Gauche". It's as good as the feature, a rarity for DVD extras.

Roseanne - The Complete Fourth Season Overview

In its prime, Roseanne was the most honest reflection of American life ever shown on television--and also one of the funniest. The second season of this essential sitcom, built around former standup comedian Roseanne Barr, was perhaps its best. The sterling cast--which featured John Goodman (Raising Arizona, Matinee) as Roseanne's husband Dan; Laurie Metcalf (Dear God) as her sister Jackie; and Lecy Goranson, Sara Gilbert, and Michael Fishman as Becky, Darlene, and D.J., her three kids--were confident and eagerly stretching themselves. The writers (including Joss Whedon, later to create Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly) knew how to write smart but credible dialogue and stories; in one episode, Darlene writes a poem that sounds exactly like a 13 year old girl's poetry, yet squeezes your heart. Watch almost any other sitcom and then watch Roseanne; it's startling how much more natural Roseanne feels.

In the season opener, Becky passes gas in front her classmates at school; but that in itself isn't half as funny as the glee that Darlene takes in describing the event--the kind of viciousness that only real families can cultivate. That's the key to Roseanne's success: The utter believability of the relationships. Dan and Roseanne are a loving couple, but their affection works because their fights are just as potent as their flirting. The relationship between Roseanne and Jackie became particularly strong in this season, as Roseanne fought against Jackie's desire to become a cop and meddled in her relationship with her short-lived fiance Gary (Brian Kerwin); Roseanne and Metcalf developed an interplay that could be caring, playful, and bitterly jealous--and sometimes all three at once. The daily urge of parents to both coddle and strangle their kids was thoroughly explored, as was the fusion of need and contempt children feel for their parents. There is one misstep: A dream episode in which Roseanne goes on trial smacks of star ego in a way the show is normally careful to avoid--and makes clear how sharp the other episodes are. The extras are paltry, but this isn't a collection you get for the frills; the show itself lives up to its reputation. --Bret Fetzer

#1 Cheap Sleeper By ALLEN,WOODY

Available at Amazon Visit Store Now!!

It's like Chaplin (or Keaton if you will) meets Godard with that undeniable Allen touch. `Sleeper' is equal parts slapstick and political satire with enough `Alphaville' thrown in to make it a complete delight of a film. You team up this solid scripting with the talented duo of Woody and Diane and you have a surefire hit that is hilarious from start to finish.

These two need to work together again soon.

The film is a hilarious romp from start to finish that tells of cryogenically frozen Miles Monroe who is thawed out 200 years into the future only to be thrust into a conspiracy, being chased by police who want to erase his memory and make him a `model citizen', while he struggles to uncover a secret government project that will change the lives of everyone. When he disguises himself as a robot servant to the ditzy Luna he finds a partner in crime so-to-speak, who helps him (at first begrudgingly) join `The Underground' to foil the evil plots to the new world leader.

The gags here are nearly all flawless (the initial thawing scene is just brilliant) and even when they don't really work (I found the cloning scene a little longwinded) there is a charm that Allen and Keaton possess that makes the scenes likable despite their flaws.

Anyone who wants to know why Allen is so loved as a film director should really see this movie. It represents a different side of Allen, a talented filmmaker who understands how to stay true to himself while unveiling many different shades of his skill. His films all contain a similarity, yet none of them really feel old-hat to me. One can watch `Hannah and Her Sisters' or `Interiors' or `Sleeper' and instantly recognize Allen's distinct voice, yet each film is a film unto itself. He has mastered his craft and continues to do so (albeit a little sloppily these days; aside from the BRILLIANT `Vicky Cristina Barcelona').

`Sleeper' is a marvelous satire that delivers on just about every front!

Sleeper Overview

When Miles Monroe (Allen) suffers complications during a simple operation, he is put into suspended animation for 200 years. He then awakens to a world very changed from that of today.

Classic - William R. Nicholas - Mahwah, NJ USA
I am told when I was three, I saw this at the drive-in in back of mom and dad's Country Squire, and rolled on the carpet, laughing. Eventually, I wet my pants

Obviously, baby Bill did not understand the mix of slapstick, political comment, and high art in sleeper. And I sure did not get the whole idea of an orgasmatron.

But I do now, and Sleeper is as fresh and funny now as it was on realease, in drive-ins as well as theatres, in 1973. How many people could mix an underground army with a grown man being chased by a mutated pudding?

Only Woody could, and it shows his literacy at its widest range. A political underground army was still a plausable thing to joke about in 1973 America, and Allen transfers the anti-Nixon couter-culture element into 2073 perfectly. Yet he also uses a lot of slapstick and vaudville gags, referancing the past. This mix of old and new, past present and future, is brillant.

The sets here are great, a white, bauhaus space age concept of what 2073 may look like. Now that 2073 is ALMOST in our reach and we realize that we will not be living like the Jetsons, as many still beleved in 1973, the sets seem, ironically, dated, but for the time, the design is brilliant.

I still don't understand one thing. I have looked all over the internet and no luck.

Where CAN I get MY orgasmatron??

#1 Cheap A Lot Like Love (Full Screen Edition) By Buena Vista Home Video

Available at Amazon Visit Store Now!!

I saw this movie on TV one weekend and knew I had to have it. I could not find it in any of my local movie or department stores, so I went straight to amazon.com to find it. Sure enough, they had it and a great price for it too. Received emails throughout the ordering and shipping processes and received my DVD well packaged about the time, maybe a day earlier, than I expected. I've bought quite a few items from amazon.com and have never been disappointed yet.

A Lot Like Love (Full Screen Edition) Overview

The words "subtle" and "Ashton Kutcher" rarely appear in the same sentence, but here goes: A Lot Like Love, a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet, is surprisingly and pleasantly subtle. The story starts when Emily (Peet, Igby Goes Down) and Oliver (Kutcher, Dude, Where's My Car?) meet on a flight to New York and have a tryst in the airplane bathroom. After a day's dalliance, they part and don't meet again for four years--when they meet, spend a day together, part, and don't meet again until...you begin to get the idea. The script could have been dangerously cute, but director Nigel Cole (who helmed the delightful Calendar Girls) carefully steers Peet and Kutcher, two actors not generally noted for their grasp of character nuance, towards fairly three-dimensional portrayals of two floundering twentysomethings who can't seem to find the right moment. There are a few rom-com cliches--at one point, Oliver serenades Emily in front of an audience of her neighbors--but most of the movie is low-key, engaging, and smacks of actual human experience. Also featuring Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) and Kathryn Hahn (Anchorman). --Bret Fetzer

Disjointed, quirky, boring, not much story, no romance - Inayat2012 youtube - USA
These two characters never hook up until the end. It's a little depressing to see the depiction of two young people who can't maintain stable relationships. If it was love then they should have stayed on it from the beginning. But this movie is not a bit like love. The storyline is non-existant and they don't stay together till the very end. The movie starts being unpredictable but then is predictable in that the characters just don't stay together. Not much comedy and nearly no romance. Try something like The Proposal (Single Disc Widescreen) if you want to know what a romantic comedy can be.

Apparently, though, a lot of other people do, because I have seen some truly caustic reviews of this movie.

So let me preface this (to ward off suggestions that I am a frat boy with a low IQ)with the following:

I'm female and have a doctorate.

This movie was freaking hilarious. I laughed start to finish on this one. It's Old School-scale hilarity. It's crude, it's obnoxious, and it's not headed for the Oscars, it's just headed to a place on my admittedly small shelf of DVDs, to join my collection of go-to movies to smooth over a rough day at work. It will get you out of your bad mood, that's for sure.

The actors had great chemistry, the scenes were outlandish (although looking back on it, their adventures, while outrageous, were actually fairly tame. Want to see a Las Vegas bachelor party gone seriously awry? Watch "Very Bad Things". And yeah, I liked that one, too.), and I laughed just as hard at my second viewing as I did my first. And Heather Graham? Now there is an underappreciated actress. Why doesn't she get more roles? She was great as the good-hearted stripper. Ken Jeong's first scene had me crying with laughter. That guy is funny in everything he is in.

Also, the scene with the baby that so many complained of? It's just a guy acting stupid with a fully clothed baby. It reminded me of something my little brother and one of his nitwit friends might have done when I brought my infant son over. Is he pretending to molest the baby? No. Is he pretending the baby is molesting him? No. It's not child abuse, it's not sexual abuse, and to suggest it is demeans real victims of such abuse, so please get over yourself.

Caveat: My kid is 18, so I would let him watch this movie, but you probably don't want to watch it WITH your kids, regardless of their ages. It might be a little awkward.

The Hangover (Unrated Edition) [Blu-ray] Overview

Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/15/2009 Run time: 108 minutes Rating: R

give it time to develop - B. E Jackson - Pennsylvania
This is the kind of comedy where the actual laughs GROW on you very gradually. You have to be a bit patient and wait for them, because let's be honest, the first 20 minutes of film are certainly nothing to brag about. The juvenile humor that takes place in the very beginning of the movie is *extremely* misleading.

The main reason the Hangover is so good to me has MORE to do with the storyline than the style of humor. Seriously!

The storyline is good- four... er, make that *three* young guys wake up one morning with a MAJOR hangover, and they have absolutely no idea what happened the night before. All they have to go on as far as remembering what happened the night before are the things right in front of them, at the hotel room, such as a baby in the closet, a tiger in the bathroom, one of the guys having a missing tooth, and other things.

Without spoiling anything, these three guys go on an adventure of a lifetime as they retrace their steps through Las Vegas.

There's also a very dirty and disgusting kind of humor that manages to weave itself through the storyline, so I can only recommend this movie to people who are 16 years old or older.
