Kat Ellis is looking for the right man. NOW. The position comes with a few requirements: willingness to travel, keen social skills, good looks, suave demeanor, sharp mind--and a tux. The qualified candidate should also have the ability to make ex-boyfriends jealous, to turn heads whenever entering a room and to reduce any woman within eye-and earshot to a week-kneed besotted admirer. Dermont is here. Not only was the leading man in this film amazing(along with a few other cast members), this story is one that leaves you happy mood and wanting to go see it again. It combines the perfect amount of humour, passion/love, and happieness. This movie is one that you definately should go and see.

The Wedding Date (Full Screen Edition) Overview

Debra Messing (TV's Will & Grace) shines in this hilarious romantic comedy about the surprising road to finding true love. Kat Ellis (Messing) is determined to attend her younger sister's wedding with a date. Rather than face the ridicule of her family and in order to show up her ex-fiance, she resorts to the Yellow Pages to find a last-minute escort, Nick (Dermot Mulroney, My Best Friend's Wedding). His dashing good looks and quick-witted charm may win over her family. But will they win over Kat? Filled with unexpected twists and endless laughs, The Wedding Date is the one date that you'll want to keep!

#1 Cheap Everybody Loves Raymond: The Complete Seventh Season Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

This is clearly the first season of ELR where the quality of the show's writing started to take a dive and even though my dislike of Chris Eliott had me swearing I would never purchase it, a little lowering of the price plus the great "Baggage" episode made me give in. I also loved the episode where Debra ends up in jail as well as the "Robert's wedding" double feature but I thought "She's the one" was way to outrageous and unbelievable, no matter if it's suppossed to be based on a real life ocurence (or so they say). At any rate, ELR is one of my all time favorite shows and even though I think the quality of the last few season wasn't quiet as good, none of them lack at least a few terrific episodes.

#1 Cheap Drive-In Cult Classics 3 Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

In Drive-In Cult Classics Volume 1, the viewer got a collection of trashy but fun dramas which focused on illicit sex and death. I have not watched Volume 2, which is a set of low-budget horror movies, some of which have even made it to Mystery Science Theater. Volume 3, however, is a true mish-mash of movies, but are overall pretty fun. All come from Crown International Pictures, a distributor of cheesy exploitation flicks (with a definite inclination towards gratuitous nudity).

Volume 3 has eight movies on four discs. On the first disc is The Babysitter and Weekend with the Babysitter, a pair of generally unrelated but similar movies. Each involves a middle-aged man (played by the same actor in both movies) having a fling with his child's babysitter and in the process getting entangled with crime. The Babysitter is the only black-and-white movie in the set.

Disc 2 has The Pink Angels and Blood Mania. Blood Mania is basically a suspense story with a lot of sex and a bit of trippiness. The Pink Angels is nominally a comedy, but it lacks any real laughs. It's the story of a gang of gay bikers. They don't actually do anything with each other, but instead are just an over-the-top collection of gay stereotypes. Even for those who find this movie likeable will be put off by the ending where things take an abrupt turn.

Things get both better and worse on Disc 3. Single Room Furnished is a rare Crown attempt to be arty, with an adaptation of a play about the tragic love life of a young woman. Unfortunately, the movie is too stagy and the acting and writing are subpar, led by Jayne Mansfield in her final role before her death in a car accident.

On the other side of Disc 3 is the first of a threesome of similar movies that continue on Disc 4. All three are late-`70s teen sex comedies. Van Nuys Blvd. (on Disc 3) romanticizes the era of cruising down the boulevard every Wednesday night. The Pom Pom Girls focus on some high school football players and their attempts to woo the title characters. Malibu Beach takes place mostly on Malibu Beach. All three are reasonably interchangeable: I enjoyed Van Nuys Blvd. the best (it seemed to have the most likeable characters), but they're all decent and pieces of cinematic greatness compared to some of the other Crown fare.

Overall, this is another collection of trashy fun; I enjoyed all these films with the exception of Single Room Furnished (more boring than bad) and to a lesser extent, Pink Angels. There are even a couple extras: a commentary and a couple movie trailers. For what these movies are - cheap entertainment - this is a good set to pick up.

Drive-In Cult Classics 3 Overview

The Babysitter:
Patricia Wymer plays Candy, the aptly named seductress babysitter who takes a job working for the powerful district attorney. A judge is about to sentence the murderous members of a motorcycle gang when Candy steps in and blackmails the D.A.

Weekend with the Babysitter:
Mona Carlton leaves to take her son on a weekend trip when Candy Wilson, the babysitter arrives. Candy gets a hold of her movie director husband, Jim Carlton and teaches him the ways of hippies, bikers, free love and narcotics. Jim soon learns this new lifestyle pales in comparison to the love he has for his wife.

The Pink Angels:
Six rugged motorcyclists gather on the side of the highway to plan an excursion to Los Angeles. Although they appear to be the burliest bunch of bikers this side of the Hell s Angels, they are actually cross-dressing madmen with an affinity for lipstick, high heels and braziers.

Blood Mania:
A scorned daughter murders her abortionist/physician father to get his inheritance and help out her junkie boyfriend. All goes according to plan until she learns that she is not the beneficiary of his will. Directed by Robert Vincent O Neil (Angel).

Single Room Furnished:
In her last performance, Jayne Mansfield portrays an innocent, voluptuous teenager who becomes a deserted pregnant wife, a waitress and a demented street-walker. This film also includes a side plot featuring a love story between two neighbors.

Van Nuys Blvd.:
Bobby, a small-town kid hears about the wild nights of cruising the boulevard in Van Nuys, California. He hops in his van and drives down to check it out. Along the way he gets involved with drag racers, topless dancers and bikers.

The Pom Pom Girls:
High school football player Johnnie is going to spend his senior year at Rosedale High School playing pranks and getting together with as many girls as possible. He and a buddy, along with two cheerleaders, are going to make their last year memorable. The Big Game with rival Hardin High School is approaching, and a prank war is about to rev into fill swing.

Malibu Beach:
Various beachgoers attempt to have their eyes on the hot new lifeguard Dina (Kim Lankford). They range from a muscle-bound idiot to pesky kids pretending to drown in order to get some mouth-to-mouth action.

Glad I didnt pay too much for it - Grapey Grimes - Cincy, OH
The title of this review really sums uo my feeling on the matter. These arent so much "Cult Classics" as they are B-Movies. There are some somewhat entertaining flicks here and some that are atrocious. Other reviews go into more detail about individual movies, so to sum it up; DONT PAY A LOT FOR THIS SET!!!

After having a hard time finding it locally, I purchased from Amazon and it arrived within a few days. The extras are nice, haven't watched them all yet. Need I say more? I had a nice night pulling this classic out for my seven kids. They're into spiderman and the watchmen and this was the perfect diversion for them. If your night is for family fun then this is it. It's not too deep or in any way a thinking mans movie, but it provides laughs for 8-12 year olds and can be watched and enjoyed by adults too. My 4 year old didnt fall asleep like usual so I'd go as far as saying it's ok for them, but if you are anal you might want to skip it.

Mystery Men [HD DVD] Overview

The hippest cast in history has united to become the funniest superhero team ever. Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Geoffrey Rush and Paul Reubens join forces in this wild, funny and thoroughly original misadventure. When Captain Amazing, Champion City's legendary superhero, falls into the hands of the evil madman Casanova Frankenstein and his disco-dancing henchmen, there's suddenly a chance for the aspiring superheroes to show what they can do. They're the Mystery Men… a ragtag team of superhero wannabes featuring: Mr. Furious, whose power comes from his boundless rage; The Shoveler, a father who shovels "better than anyone"; The Blue Raja, a fork-flinging mama's boy; The Bowler, who fights crime with the help of her father's skull; The Spleen, whose power is pure flatulence; Invisible Boy, who's only invisible when no one's watching and The Sphinx, a cliche-spewing philosopher. With its outrageous adventure, incredible cast and hip alternative humor, Mystery Men is so irresistibly funny and appealing, seeing it just once will never be enough.

The quality of the DVD is excellent, as was the price. I have always loved this movie, and marvel on how the casting types got it so right...A sweet, romantic, lovely film, so removed from the profane laden, violent, and nudity of the products currently favored by Hollywood. "Box Office" for the most part, is the name of the game. So sad! I have watched this movie many times, and it is rarely on TV now, so decided that I wanted to be able to enjoy whenever the mood hit. A feel good movie, for sure. Two of my friends have already borrowed it. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on Amazon, and it arrived within a few days. I now live in New Mexico (what?) but am a native New Yorker and love to see films that were set in NYC. Takes me back to when I walked those streets. :) Wonderful on all levels...Amazon "rocks"!

#1 Cheap Platinum Comedy Series - Dave Chappelle - Killin' Them Softly Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

This is Dave Chappelle in his finest hour! This has to be one of the best stand up comedy performances I have EVER seen from a man who I consider a pure a comedic genius.

Ever since Half Baked I've been a fan so when I saw this in the new release section back in 2003 I decided to buy it. I hadn't seen him perform live so I had no clue really if I'd like it. Like is not the word I'd use to describe how I feel about this DVD! I knew immediately he was going to be BIG! I wasn't wrong!

The man is HILARIOUS from beginning to end. Not since Eddie Murphy's Delirious have I laughed so hard. This is before Chappelle Show, when he was just Dave. He goes through a variety of subjects, some of them the usual topics comedians use like race & relationships but he delivers it with this amazing amount of thought and intelligence behind it and in a way that is so fearless. You know its his own genuine thoughts and he's just being who he is, which don't see often these days. I have seen this DVD dozens of times and it never gets old. It's still relevant 6 years later and just as funny as the first time I saw it. I do have his other stand up DVD and I have to say its good but but it can't touch Killin' Em Softly. You will LOVE this DVD! It's a CLASSIC!

Platinum Comedy Series - Dave Chappelle - Killin' Them Softly Overview

As an actor he's appeared alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names in films such as THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, CON AIR, YOU'VE GOT MAIL, UNDERCOVER BROTHER and BLUE STREAK. CHAPPELLE also co-wrote and starred in the sidesplitting prison caper HALF BAKED. Now laugh out loud as you spend 60 hilarious minutes with DAVE CHAPPELLE as he sounds off on everyone within earshot. Originally aired on HBO in 2000, "Killin’ Them Softly" is without a doubt one of the funniest standup specials available. You’ll never laugh more than you will here. Dave spares no victim as he addresses issues about the Police, Racism, Sesame Street, Kids, and the Government. It’s hilarious! Comedy doesn't get any better than this! Welcome DAVE CHAPELLE’S "Killin’ Them Softly" to the prestigious PLATINUM COMEDY SERIES. Bringing you the funniest comedians in America!

Great Comedy DVD. - CAL DREAMIN - FL
I like Chappelle for the most part - some better times than others. This I saw on comedy channel - had to have it. It is tame enough to be funny and true enough to keep your attention - without being overly bold! Real life stuff - may be alot on racist stuff - but true to his belief and growing up I am sure. I can see some of the stuff happening... he is funny how he presents this and it really kept me laughing! I just liked this one alot!

#1 Cheap Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season One, Part One Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

Ever wish you bought Microsoft back in 1992, sometimes I remember thinking about it then. When I do, I realize if I had I'd have become seriously rich, and could do lots fo things like finance a movie or a TV series. After saving Firefly, the Joss Whedon series, the next thing I think I'd want to finance would be History's Strongest Disciple. Yeah, I know that's not the US title of this, but it's still the one I know it by. Kenichi was not received as well as it could have been by fan groups cause many of them were expecting a straight martial arts show. Kenichi is more of a comedic series with an interesting martial arts twist. The martial arts part is blown up to be a bit larger than life, but it works on both a comedic and an action level. The character development in Kenichi is stellar and that's why I think it would make a good live action series as well as anime. Not that far into the series, we all seem to have a handle on his family, his school friends, his enemies, and the mystical dojo that houses six masters of various martial arts.

The plot is simple, I'm not really sending spoilers by saying Kenichi is a wimp who wants to be more than that, and gets his wish with the chance meeting of a new girl at school Miu. They have met before a long time ago, but only Miu puts it together at their first meeting. It is through her that Kenichi gets his opportunity to change himself. There is a subtle point which was meant to preserve the comedy and perhaps prolong the series early on. To explain that I'll go to the manga series, of which there are two. In the first the plot is different and Kenichi becomes a fighter for different reasons and gets stronger much sooner. After about 40 chapters or so they scrapped that story, and started a new one from scratch. In the new version which echos the anime, Miu is the one who drives Kenichi more, and in this case involves him in something the masters would have spared him from.

While this is a small spoiler, I'll tell you it cause it can be missed if you don't pay close attention. Kenichi, like most people wants to get himself out of a bind, but he would never have chosen the path he took had he known what it implied. The bind he was in involved the Karate club, where he is challenged by a much larger new member who plans to beat the crap out of him, and force him to leave the club. After Miu gets Kenichi involved with the masters, a funny enough introduction in it's own right, they train him with harsh conditioning methods. Miu, feeling sorry for him, and overhearing the person he's going to fight boast about the beating he'll get, teaches him an advanced technique. In the end he wins, but the move is illegal, so he leaves the Karate club, but not without attracting some attention from the upperclassman in the club. You see the thing the masters knew, that Kenichi and Miu did not, was that if he was conditioned and had no knowledge of technique, a person with no natural martial arts aptitude like himself, would survive the beating. He could then go on with his everyday life mostly unfettered. Unfortunately, since Miu teaches him an advanced technique, now stronger and stronger fighters will now come at him till he'd finally completely defeated, or he has to get stronger to beat them. What he finds out is he'll now likely spend the rest of his life battling new challengers.

What makes Kenichi so funny? It's often in the crazy training techniques, like the squid dance where Kenichi is hung on a spit over an open fire fanned by one of his masters, and has to keep twisting back and forth to keep from getting fried. This helps develop the abs, rather quickly I would assume, or he might be giving the master a ride by pulling him on a tire. He once asked if there was a faster way to get in shape while doing this, and the master said their was... Kenichi waited to hear about it, whereby the master produced a whip, then told him to pull him on the tire faster! Other funny scenes involve Kenichi's father and his pet shotgun Sebastian, his busybody sister, who thinks Kenichi, (and she may be right) has been seduced away to this dojo by Miu's large chest. There is humor in the foes he fights as each one has his share of quirks, from a cat loving female kick artist, to a crazy aristocrat, who composes and hears music in his fighting. There is humor in the interaction between the masters, composed of a childlike monster who can't control his power, to a female master of weapons who is constantly fighting the perverted attempts to photograph her by the Chinese master, a drunken Karate master who says he refuses to take disciples, and Kenichi's philosopher, artist, and mentor who constantly tricks him into getting stronger. There is humor in Kenichi's forked tongued, alien like, or demon like friend, who plans to use him to conquer the world, and then lead it himself. Kenichi generally can become serious enough when the fighting starts, but is more often humourous when there is not a battle going on.

It's been a couple years since the series aired, and they do not seem to be interested in making more at this time. This is unfortunate because the manga has material to do three times or more the number of episodes they've produced. The manga is on it's 353 chapter as I write this. This is the first part of season one, and officially there was only one season of 50 episodes. Funimation has only half that season licensed, so hopefully they will pick up the second half. The stories a somewhat episodic so this is a fair way to release them, but it would be nice to collect the entire season. As for me, I'm still thinking who I'd cast in the parts fo the various characters, who knows, I might win the lotto one day, and I'd love to make this into a hit live action series in the states.

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple - Season One, Part One Overview

Yeah, Kenichi’s a total wimp. He’s always getting picked on and doesn’t have a lot of friends to stick up for him. The guy needs motivation if he hopes to graduate in one piece.

Well, Miu’s the perfect motivation. She’s hot, she accepts him, and she just so happens to live at a dojo with six martial arts masters. You could say fate has led Kenichi to their door, or you could say he was just following the hottie. Either way, he’s about to get whipped into serious shape. If he can survive some hard-core training, he might survive another day at school. He might even score with Miu. Yeah, you could call Kenichi a wimp. But let’s go with underdog instead.

GERONIMO! - E. A Solinas - MD USA
An anime series about a boy learning martial-arts from a gang of masters sounds... kinda boring. Fortunately it's anything but -- "Kenichi: Season One, Part One" is a solid start to this deliciously oddballish series, with plenty of gutsplitting comedy, explosive action, a hint of romance, and extremely eccentric martial artists. And the "weak knees" main character makes it easy for you to root for him.

Throughout his school life, Kenichi Shirahama has been weak, bullied, friendless and nicknamed "weak knees." He enters the high school karate club to become stronger, but quickly finds himself at the bottom of the food chain -- and challenged to a match by a big muscled thug.

But his life is unexpectedly saved by the new transfer student Miu, who can beat down an entire street gang. She guides him to the Ryzanpaku dojo where she lives... and where five great martial arts masters currently reside, each at the peak of their skill and strength. Unsurprisingly Kenichi joins up with the hope of becoming stronger, but he soon discovers that their methods are kind of brutal (think racing around the city pulling jiujitsu master Akisame in a tire!). With the strength training -- and a little help from Miu -- Kenichi pulls off a miraculous victory.

Unfortunately, his martial-arts win only leads to more trouble. First he attracts the attention of the cruel Tsukuba, foremost karate fighter at the school; and then he unwittingly gains the attention of Ragnarok, the strongest street gang in the city. While Kenichi tries to keep his life as normal as possible, his new fame as a fighter only causes more chaos for him, as Ragnarok's boxer Takeda and cruel Shinnosuke challenge him to fight.

"Kenichi: Season One Part One" is a strong start to the anime series -- it quickly introduces us to the characters and scenario, then plunges right into the world of martial arts training. But on a deeper level, "Kenichi" is also about a young man who gains not only physical strength but mental endurance, and how his innocent quest to be strong rapidly escalates into something far more life-changing.

And.... it's funny. REALLY funny. Every episode is packed with slapstick, insane training (the Great Leg Divide -- a sort of medieval torture device), eccentric characters ("Riiiiiise, SEBASTIAN!"), and tsunamis of hormones whenever Kenichi gets within two feet of Miu. All this humor keeps the series from getting too deadly serious. There's also a lot of action that twists through the various episodes, as Kenichi is confronted by all sorts of opponents -- karate, boxing, street fighters, knife-wielding thugs -- and has to use different techniques to defeat them. Lots of special punches, low kicks, pivots, body-weight throws and other fun techniques.

But Kenichi himself is a strong point -- he's a likable and earnest kid who hasn't been soured by his constant mistreatment at school, and who just wants to be strong enough to defend himself and other people. And it doesn't go to his head, since he shows immense compassion towards the people he defeats. Miu is also an excellent female lead in the vein of Tite Kubo's Orihime -- busty, friendly, industrious, naive, and just a little bit weird.

And the supporting characters have a brilliance of their own: there's Miu's imposing grandpa, the rough and blunt Sakaki, the silent sword-swinging Shigure, the lecherous Kensei, and the vast and deadly child-man Apachai ("Only limit is limit of fear!"). And while we haven't seen much of him yet, Takeda the Puncher is a promising rival/buddy for Kenichi.

"Kenichi: Season One Part One" is a solid start to a thoroughly enjoyable series, crammed with martial-arts fighting and loads of comedy. A fun, wild little anime series that deserves immediate watching! Apapapapa!

When Sexie came around in the U.S. I saw it live, and it was AMAZING. I laughed so hard for hours, and could have continued for more. When "Sexie" was released as a DVD in the UK, I purchased a copy. Yes, this DVD was funny, yet not as good as live, nor as good as this "Live from Wembley" copy. However, I'm extremely disappointed that they changed the name. I had no idea this was exactly what I already owned, and now since I've opened the package I cannot return it. I will say the quality is better, and his delivery is too in this edition. Eddie is a favorite of my household, and I love his work dearly. It is the marketing here that is wrong!

#1 Cheap Clone High: Complete 1st Season Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

Possibly the most quotable show in history (and about history).

I came into Clone High a little late, I remember seeing the show on MTV at the time it was on (the no sleep episode), but didn't really watch it all till about 6 months ago, when I discovered most of the 13 episodes could be seen on youtube for free.

That said, after seeing 3 episodes on youtube, I immediately bought the DVD. This is an awesome show, its wacky, immediately funny, and subversive all at the same time. It literally has something for everyone. There's immediate, stupid humor, historical humor, stuff thats much more subversive, parodies of everything from teen dramas to looney tunes to Benny Hill to Christmas specials and beyond.

Its a shame that this show was shut down because it apparently offended Indians due to its portrayal of Ghandi. I can understand why Indians wouldn't like the Ghandi character, but seriously, they make a point several times of saying that its a CLONE of Ghandi. Oh well, pick a less iconic historical figure next time, I guess (though no one complained about "Hesus Christo").

But the writing, seriously. SO good. These guys knew how to take a joke to its breaking point. They would run things about two beats further than they should, and it would end up super funny. Family Guy could learn a few things from this show.

That said, I'm actually not sure how they would've worked a 2nd season. Over the course of 13 episodes, they had slowly driven the episodes so over the top (example: compare the amount of bloodshed on the first disc to the second disc) that by the end of everything I don't really know where they could've taken it. Any further and it would've been WAY TOO FAR over the top (a line they already were skipping across by the end of everything) or they would've repeated themselves. Either way, great show, but it had its own self-imposed limits. I suppose the cancellation makes it sort of a mini-series. And thats fine, I guess. It works perfect that way.

Still, great parody of teen dramas, and great writing. Not only was I laughing my [...] off, but by the end of everything I actually found myself caring whether or not Joan and Abe would get together. Pretty impressive that a parody show would still make its characters emotionally resonant.

If you can get it for under [...] you totally should. If not, well, there's always youtube.

Worth the purchase - William T. Dee III - Outside Philadelphia
This show was on when I was 19 and a soph in college. I only remember watching 3 episodes, The first one, The extreme blue one, and the ghandi has ADD, but I thought it was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Since I purchased the DVD's, I have shown it to my friends who all think it is great. Worth every penny.

Now if we could just get the first 2 seasons of Sifl and Olly on DVD, that would be AMAZING.

This is a funny treasure hunting movie. The blue-ray version is very visually appealing and will make you wish you were on vacation at the beach. The plot itself is entertaining, and the movie's pace is fairly quick for the most part. I am definitely happy that I purchased this Blu-Ray version of the movie, as it is a great way to enjoy the stunning visuals of a High Definition TV!

#1 Cheap Music and Lyrics [Blu-ray] Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

Every few years, a musical comedy comes along that perfectly nails a musical era. The late 70s would be "Spinal Tap". The 90s would be "Singles". And here, ladies & gentlemen of the 80s generation, we have "Music and Lyrics".

I don't know if pre-80s or post-80s people would understand the humour, but gawd I was in stitches from the beginning. The film starts with a frighteningly accurate parody of an 80s pop video: complete with plinky synthesizers, moussed hair, atrocious 80s dancing (you know the moves I'm talking about), slutty nurses with grand cleavage, and men with pants that are so tight you can tell their religion. If this description stirs up any high school memories, then this is the movie for you.

People call this a romantic comedy, which it is, but I think the real comedy lies in the cultural satire. Hugh Grant plays the aging popstar "Alex", an ex-80s glamboy who never quite grew up. Over the years he's been reduced to playing highschool reunions and Six Flags themeparks, always eliciting orgasmic screams from the middle-aged women in the crowd but never taken seriously in the real world. Then one day he gets the chance to write a new hit song for a modern pop diva, but he needs a lyricist to make it happen. Enter Drew Barrymore as "Sophie" whose lyric writing skills are only topped by her neurotic behaviour. Instant comedy, my friends.

But really, the plot is almost irrelevant. The point of this film is--in the spirit of Spinal Tap--to mock the silliness of what we all were but are too embarrassed to admit, now that we're "grown up". My fellow refugees from the 80s, this is your catharsis, a way of exorcising all the 80s demons from your closets. You laugh at the screen, but you're actually laughing at yourselves & loving every minute.

Both Hugh & Drew deliver great, believable performances, and the script is fast paced & witty like an old Katharine Hepburn / Cary Grant picture. But what really made this a great film are the riotous performances by the supporting characters: Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Kristen Johnston ("3rd Rock from the Sun"), and the rookie Haley Bennett as the perfect Britney/Shakira pop diva whose songs always seem to have the word "booty" in them. Each of these actors add their own particular quirky comedy to this production.

Don't miss your chance to see this movie. Twice even. And the bonus features on the DVD are a real treat: the Gag Reel (bloopers), Deleted Scenes, and The Making Of featurette. Especially if you were born between the years of 1965 and 1975, you must see this movie immediately.

Music and Lyrics [Blu-ray] Overview

First you're hot, then you're not...and then you're Alex Fletcher (HUGH GRANT). So when the sizzlingest tween-queen on the charts asks the has-been '80s pop sensation to write her a song, he grabs for another chance at stardom. Problem: Alex can say it with music, but he sure can't say it with words. Enter Sophie Fisher (DREW BARRYMORE), his beguiling if quirky plant lady, who has a green thumb for lyrics. Together, they go after songwriting success -- and discover that if you want to write the perfect love song, it helps to fall in love. With Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore at the keyboard and Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice) directing, Music and Lyrics is a witty, wacky romantic comedy that faces the music...and laughs!

#1 Cheap Leap Year Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

The tone of the movie is light and whimsical, entirely in tune with the traditional romcom. I enjoyed this more than many other recent romcoms. Rather than just go through the motions it plays like a cross between some yesteryear Cary Grant comedy and that great 80's movie, The Sure Thing. The charming leads portray some genuine chemistry, ably demonstrated in the inevitable kissing scene - handled much better here than it was in The Proposal for instance. The sprightly dialogue and contrived situations allows the leads to be flawed and wonderful in equal measure. They also get a couple of lines of bittersweet back story; the interwoven sentiment allowing us to care for them as well rounded human beings, each with a bit of depth to them. They bicker and fight amidst some breathtaking scenery, this visual poetry is ably assisted by a fine musical score. A couple of the jokes were obg's (oldies but goodies) particularly the scenes with the old Irish drinkers but despite this I found myself laughing out loud more than once. Also, Amy Adams pulls of a delicious, understated, pratt-fall which isn't something we see too often. The supporting cast were fine with the notable exception of John Lithgow; he was fantastic, a five minute cameo reminding us of what a master can do with a few lines.

The romcom script has to make us believe that two seemingly ill suited people will overcome the odds and get together. This script does that by giving us a couple of exposition scenes which enable real changes in attitude between these two people, additionally, it gives each of them a moment of truth, a Damascan revelation, which allows the characters to finally make up their mind.

Giving the viewer the slow build up as well as the final crunch scenes enables a more powerful and enjoyable plot device rather than hanging the whole outcome of the movie on one single scene. This also helped me to believe the character reactions to the third act twist when it came along to pull them apart. The happy ending was an absolute delight and the kind of thing I could watch again.

So, we have likeable leads, a quirky situation and decent dialogue wrapped in fine cinematography and music. Is it the perfect romcom? For me it was.

Leap Year Overview

Leap Year is one of the most delightful, relatable romantic comedies to come along in a great while, and its appeal is due in equal measure to the talents of its star, Amy Adams, and the lush, romantic countryside of Ireland. The two together are enough to melt the hardest of hearts. Adams is smart, funny, approachable, gorgeous but real, and very witty and nuanced in her performance. Adams's character, Anna, waits for her stiff of a doctor boyfriend, Jeremy, played by Adam Scott, to propose after four years of coupledom, to no avail. When Jeremy goes off to Ireland on business, Anna gets a bee in her bonnet to follow--to be able to capitalize on the Irish tradition that women can propose to men on leap year day, February 29. To no one's surprise, Jeremy remains clueless even amid the gorgeous Irish landscape, and Anna has some predictable misfortunes along the way. But fate brings her into the path of a handsome bartender, Declan, played by Matthew Goode, and from there the audience can just sit back and enjoy the fluffy ride. Goode, who was a revelation in A Single Man, is a leading man to watch, not just because of his good looks, but because as an actor he's able to communicate subtly, with looks and gestures that make his interactions with Adams's Anna touching and believable. And with majestic Ireland as a backdrop, their wee spark just might blossom into something magical. --A.T. Hurley

Very cute yet cliched - Rose Stillwater -
I went into this movie expecting your typical romantic comedy and it pretty much was what I expected. Although this movie was chock full of cliches, it was still cute and charming in its own way. The scenery of the Irish countryside is worth seeing the movie just for that. Amy Adams was great in her role but I thought it took too long for the audience to warm up to Matthew Goode's character although by the end, you very much wanted them together. This movie isn't going to win any awards or be remembered in the long run but it was cute, had some genuine laughs and was overall very enjoyable. I would recommend seeing this small, sweet movie.

More fun and drama abound in the third season of this smartly written series, with the Lorelais dealing with many conflicts--some of their own making--involving Richard and Emily, the self-destructive Jess, explosive Paris Geller, and more.

Rory shows her academic smarts but isn't too good at picking guys to fall in love with, while Lorelai and Luke seem to be edging closer to each other. In the meantime, the inn burns severely, leaving Lorelai and the hilarious, high-strung Sookie to hatch plans for a new place that they can manage together.

The one character I find tragic is Lane Kim, who is musically gifted and spirited, but this spirit is crushed by her overly strict mother.

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Third Season Overview

More fun, more flames, more flameouts: more Gilmore. This Deluxe 6-Disc Set contains all 22 third-year episodes (plus bonus features) of The Gilmore Girls, the hit series known for its witty, rapid-fire dialogue and poignant, suds-free storylines. For mother and daughter Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, it's a year of change. Much of it is expected, like Rory's graduation from Chilton and the anxiety of waiting for college acceptance letters. But much of it is not. Rory starts the year with two boyfriends (that may be two too many). Lorelai rekindles the flame with Max (maybe). Lane meets Mr. Right (at last). Sookie gets a surprise (a good one). And so does the Independence Inn (not such a good one). The girls are waiting (get watching!).=20

#1 Cheap Peanuts: Snoopy's Reunion Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

I have been a long time fan of the peanuts gang, charlie brown, snoopy and everythng and everyone included. But I grew up in a very rural part of the south where tvs were rare and tv stations were even rarer if you can imagine that. So when I saw one of the movies on tv it was like christmas all over again (imagine that seeing something made you so happy even if you didn't get to keep it). Later on as an adult I realised and even wrote a letter to renowned world famous and I think he should have gotten a medal from congress or the president for all the wonderfulness his characters did in this world, for adults and children alike. Much to my suprise and amazement, the author and creator himself wrote me back a letter I cherish to these days. I am the parent of special needs children and even on their best day its so hard to explain things, but they absolutely adored watching any snoopy or peanuts book or movie I can get my hands on for them. It isn't filled with tons of unwanted over abused advertised, violent or bad humor and unwanted grief like alot of cartoons are these days. Good wholesome family values they have. They also explain where some dogs and animals we end up with as pets, that there are people out there that care and just don't give animals to anyone but actually look for good homes for them. Others help others and sometimes you learn by trial and error but that is okay, its absolutely wonderful and it deals with alot of issues basic ones that kids deal with even to this day but it shows that no matter what, Charlie Brown doesn't give up.. and Snoopy irregardless of how far out his family members are spread out in the world. They always remember and love each other irregardless. so thank you amazon for making more of these avalible to the general public.

My 27 month old son loves Snoopy, and this movie is his hands-down favorite thing to watch. The Snoopy Reunion feature makes him laugh and laugh. The second feature gets him up and dancing along with Snoopy. The story line (especially in the second movie) doesn't go as deep as some of the more well-known Peanuts movies, but it's cute to see Snoopy as a puppy, and to learn about all his siblings. Also, the humans actually talk! It's a good choice for small children; as a mom, I can stand to watch it every day too.

#1 Cheap Up in the Air Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

Everything is pretty from far away. Especially from high above. A dump, a swamp, a sewage plant... nothing looks too bad if viewed from thousands of feet in the air. Something about keeping a distance.
Last year's award nominated film, Up in the Air, provides many lovely aerial shots, along with a clever script, humor and competent performances.
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a big believer in keeping his distance. His life is about not letting anything, or especially anyone, close to him. In this film, directed by Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking and Juno) from the novel by Walter Kim, Ryan Bingham has based his life and his philosophy on travel. He spends all but a couple of his weeks in airplanes, conference rooms, rental cars and hotel rooms. The few weeks at "home" are in an apartment with as much personality as the hotel rooms that are more of a home to him.
Bingham has two jobs. One is as roving "life transition consultant" (he fires people for bosses and corporations who would rather avoid such messy situations) and as a motivational speaker. In his speeches he uses the metaphor of a backpack. He asks his audience to imagine a backpack on their shoulders. He asks them to load the knick knacks of their houses into the backpack and then to imagine the feel of the straps on their shoulders. Then he asks them to imagine their furniture and car and house or apartment all in the backpack and the weight they would feel and the impossibility of moving around.
Then he asks the audience to imagine their friends and family in the backpack. He argues that the more attachments one has, the tougher it is to move -- and moving is life. Talking to salespeople, he changes metaphors, and says they are sharks, and if they stop moving, they will die.
There is something to be said about not being attached to material possessions. Jesus has a lot to say about being willing to give up stuff that would weigh us down. But in the film, Bingham reconsiders his attitude toward relationships.
It's true that keeping people at a distance keeps us from ugly sights (aerial views are prettier). But ultimately, Bingham learns that though people sometimes add to our loads, more often people help us carry our loads.
In his job, he sees people that lose their jobs and have no place to turn, as opposed to the people who face such difficulties with the support of friends and family. The film also has an extensive scene in a Lutheran church. Sure, it's for a wedding, but it is a reminder of another place support can be found to carry our loads.
The writer of Hebrews, in chapter 25:10, wrote, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
We might be able to travel more quickly on our own. But we won't necessarily get where we want to be.

I rarely purchase TV shows on DVD. This was a great buy. There are 13 episodes in the first season and they are on 3 discs. There is a bonus gag reel (about 8 minutes) at the end of the 3rd disc. The show is hilarious and the characters are great. I agree with other reviewers that the quality of some of the episodes was grainy on the Blu-ray. I bought this as a Blu-ray because it was cheaper at the time that I made the purchase. I am buying the second season now (regular DVD).

Great show, bad quality transfer - T. Silva - Orlando, FL
Pros: It's Chuck!
Cons: Terrible transfer. No menus.

The show is excellent. Perfect amount of comedy plus action with great acting from the cast. Very entertaining.

This review is more for the quality of this Blu-Ray pressing than the content of the show.

Like I stated, the show is tops, but this Blu-Ray transfer however, isn't. When I read the reviews complaining about it being grainy, I didn't realize just how bad it actually is and figured I could live with it. I was wrong. The sad part is that the noise isn't present all the time, but when it is, it REALLY stands out. It happens in both brightly lit and dark scenes leading me to believe that this isn't a by-product of the show being shot on a particular kind of film, but poor quality control at Warner Bros. Odd thing is that there are also many scenes both dark and bright that have no noise at all and look fabulous.
The DVD version does not have this problem.
This pressing also has no top-level menu. You put the disc in and it starts playing. That works well for movies, but this is a multi-episode TV series. Major screw-up (where was the QC at WB during the production of this set?). You can select episodes/extra content via a pop-up menu.
The DVD version has (real) menus.

Verdict: Skip it. As much as I love hi-def, such a poor job was done on this pressing that I cannot recommend it. Get the DVD's. The video is far superior(!) and they actually have some production value put into them.

#1 Cheap Absolutely Fabulous - Complete Series 1-3 Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

"Absolutely Fabulous" is a British sitcom starring Jennifer Saunders (from French & Saunders), Julia Sawalha and Joanna Lumley. A young Naoko Mori has a supporting act.

The main characters are Edina Monsoon, her friend Patsy and Edina's daughter Saffron. Edina is a 40-something defrocked hippie, living a bohemian and completely meaningless life of drugs, New Age fads, fashion advertising and rank debauchery. Apparently, she still insists on voting Labour. Her friend Patsy is something of a leech, who probably never had a real job in her entire life. She's supposedly 47 but looks twice as old, despite plastic surgery. Saffron is the prudish, grey and boring teenage daughter of Eddie. Throughout the series, she is constantly harassed by both Edina and Patsy.

I honestly admit that I don't understand what's so funny about this series. Most of the jokes are incomprehensible. Do I socialize in the wrong circles? Is that why I don't get it? But then, you probably have to be insane to socialize with people like Eddie, Patsy and Saffy, LOL.

Despite not getting it (really), I nevertheless laughed myself through every episode. I'm not sure why. Maybe I *do* get it, at some subliminal level. Or maybe I laugh simply because the whole series is absolutely insane. I mean, what should we make of Edina's secretary Bubble? She's arguably the goofiest character ever invented on the movie screen. Or what about Jackie, Patsy's older sister who smoked opium with Che Guevara and Mao, and now wants to start a home for abandoned cats? Supposedly, Jacques Brel wrote his song "Jackie" in her honour (yeah, right). In one episode, Edina decides to start an advertising campaign in the projects using gigantic billboards saying: "CHEER UP, IT MIGHT NEVER HAPPEN". (I'm not sure whether this episode is included on this DVD, however. Check out some fan site.)

The funniest character of the show is, of course, poor grey Saffy, who looks and behaves as a spinster despite being only a teenager. The contrast between her and her hippie mother Eddie couldn't be greater. Saffy's friend Sarah is even worse. We're talking Salvation Army material. The constant brawls between Saffron and Edina, where Saffy is forced to act "mother" to the irresponsible Eddie, are the centrepiece of the show.

And yet, I still don't quite get it...

I'm not sure how the rate this show and its weird gallery of crackpots, but for old times sake, I'll give it four out of five.

Absolutely Fabulous - Complete Series 1-3 Overview

Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, June Whitfield and Julia Sawalha star in the award-winning TV comedy series that defined the early 90s. Enjoy Eddie and Patsy's hilarious escapades with this great box set and crack open the Bolly!

#1 Cheap Ricky Gervais: Out of England - The Stand-Up Special Reviews

Ricky Gervais is a comedian who is not afraid to push the boundaries of good taste.

In this 72-minute special, filmed during his successful tour of the United States, the British funnyman not only pokes fun at charities that help the mentally and physically challenged, but also the Holocaust.

The amazing thing is that you find yourself laughing out loud, sometimes uncontrollably, at the humor Gervais finds in these ordinarily taboo subjects.

He also does extended hilarious routines on the male sexual organ and even Humpty Dumpty.

Gervais is, indeed, one of the funniest comedians of this generation.

Included on the DVD is a conversation with Gervais.

#1 Cheap Maid in Manhattan Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

To understand why MAID IN MANHATTAN was so wildly popular at the box office when first released in 2002, one must first examine the times in which it first appeared. Less than a year on from September 11th, audiences needed fairytale escapism, and this movie delivered it with an adorable Jennifer Lopez (then riding high on her dual career of actress and chart-topping pop singer) and a whimsical Norah Jones soundtrack. Seven years later, does MAID IN MANHATTAN still hold it's entertaining spell? Yes...

Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) manages to juggle a hectic job of working as maid in the plush Beresford Hotel in New York with being a loving single mother to her 10-year-old son Ty (Tyler Garcia Posey). One day whilst fooling around in the closet belonging to globe-trotting socialite Caroline Lane (Natasha Richardson), she happens to bump into political campaigner Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) and a warm friendship begins which soon turns into romance. All the while hiding her true identity, Marisa teeters on the brink of losing her job--and a shot at landing a management position. Will she risk it all for another chance at love?

Lopez and Fiennes share a sleek chemistry; but Kevin Wade's screenplay oddly ends up following the supporting characters more closely and in greater depth than the leads. The late, great Natasha Richardson plays the shallow, bubble-headed socialite to a tee; and Bob Hoskins has some wonderful scenes as the Beresford's veteran butler. Keep your eyes peeled for Amy Sedaris ("Strangers with Candy"); as well as Broadway star Priscilla Lopez.

#1 Cheap Unforgiven (Two-Disc Special Edition) Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in Unforgiven. The 1992 movie is complex, it examines what is good and evil, the viewpoints of age and youth, finding courage, doing what is important while feeling guilt and yet finding redemption through change.

This is a Western set in Kansas and Big Whisky, Wyoming. The opening scene is in Kansas and shows William Munny, a retired gunslinger, chasing pigs with his two young children, a girl and a boy. Munny is also a widower and has to make do on his small farm. He has sworn off gun-slinging and wild women to honor the love of his life, his wife who died at age 29. She turned his life around and though poor, he felt good about making up for his past life of violence, drinking and wild women.

A young man on a horse comes up to Munny. He is the Shofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett). He has a proposal to kill two cowboys that cut up a prostitute in Wyoming. There is reward money of ,000 and they can split two ways. Munny initially refuses to help with the assassination, but realizes that it would help his children have a better future if he could afford to do something else.

After a few days he sets off with his best friend, Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman) also a retired gunfighter. Ned reluctantly leaves his Native American Wife, "Two Feathers" to go along on the hit. Two Feathers is near Munny's farm and agrees to check in on his children and help when they need her.

The trio get to the town of Big Whisky and find the Sheriff, Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman), enforcing gun control and using his power as he sees fit. He had denied justice to the prostitutes who now want revenge and have secretly gathered the ,000 reward money.

Thereafter the story keeps developing with twists and turns. The mighty win over the weak. It is a haunting story of life's and moralities ambiguity.

Unforgiven (Two-Disc Special Edition) Overview

Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired, down-on-their-luck outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty offered by the vengeful prostitutes of the remote Wyoming town of Big Whiskey. Richard Harris is an ill-fated interloper, a colorful killer-for-hire called English Bob. And Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Gene Hackman is the sly and brutal local sheriff whose brand of law enforcement ranges from unconventional to ruthless.

Excellant movie. - Skippy - Oregon
Excellant Clint Eastwood movie - one of his best in my opinion. Good service from Amazon.com as always.

I like action movies with some humor and these fit the bill. I'm not into martial arts for itself and had bought Shanghai Noon on VHS mainly because Owen Wilson was in it and I like his comedy. The combination of him with Chan is, at least in these two movies, irresistible. I don't know about anyone else, but these are great movies for me.

When Chon Wang (Chan) gets news of his estranged father's murder in Shanghai, he leaves his honorable life as Carson City's sheriff in a cloud of dust and reunites with his yarn-spinning sidekick, Roy O'Bannon (Wilson). Together they make their way to London on a daring quest for honor and revenge. Hilarious escapades and hair-raising adventures ensue as our heroes find themselves in the middle of a devious plot to eliminate the entire royal family. And Chon gives Victorian Britain a royal kick in the pants as he tries to avenge his father's death and keep love-struck Roy away from his sister! SHANGHAI KNIGHTS: Two cultures collide in SHANGHAI NOON, a wildly hilarious, stunt-filled action-adventure comedy starring the death-defying action hero Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson, and Lucy Liu. Chan plays Chinese Imperial Guard Chon Wang (say it out loud) who hightails it to the wild and woolly West to rescue the beautiful kidnapped Princess Pei Pei (Liu). When he meets up with the laid-back outlaw cowboy dude Roy O'Bannon (Wilson), they form the best mismatch ever made in the rough and tumble Old West -- the two face jail, brawls, bordellos, and the vilest villains this side of the Great Wall! Spectacular stunts, outrageous irreverence, and epic vistas reign as East meets West in a battle for honor, royalty, and a fortune in gold! It's a real kick

#1 Cheap George Carlin: It's Bad For Ya Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

What a perfect way to go out, GO OUT BIG!, I mean seriously, George left us suddenly and unexpectedly but he left us a legacy of laughs that can never be taken away from us and IT'S BAD FOR YA is absolutely no exception. From the get go, George had me going until he left the stage when he was done, it was pure comedic genius.
HIS TAKE ON RELIGION
HIS TAKE ON LIFE
HIS TAKE ON CHILDREN
He goes on and on and on and you cannot help but sit there and think about what this man is telling you, YES, he's a comedian and YES, he's supposed to make you laugh but he also makes you think about this stuff and realize that maybe...just maybe we are all in a world of S**T!

The Special features were great too, the first one was an Interview with George taken from the Archives of American TV found at EMMYTVLEGENDS.ORG and the other was his performance 40 years ago on the Jackie Gleason Show, it was pretty funny for TV that is anyway.

I loved the DVD, it was his last performance and as far as I'm concerned, he went out on top and he'll stay there for eternity!

REST IN PEACE GEORGE!!!

George Carlin: It's Bad For Ya Feature

  • In his 14th HBO special and final concert appearance, Carlin ruminates with unapologetic irreverence on the touchy subjects of life, religion and even death ( Picture your grandmother in Hell baking pies without an oven. ) Unbowed and unmellowed at the ripe old age of 70, Carlin flame roasts such sacred cultural cows as Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Betty Ford, overprotected children, patriotism,

George Carlin: It's Bad For Ya Overview

It s Bad For Ya, Carlin s Emmy nominated 14th and final HBO special from March of 2008 features Carlin s noted irreverent and unapologetic observations on topics ranging from death, religion, bureaucracy, patriotism, overprotected children and big business to the pungent examinations of modern language and the decrepit state of the American culture.

For this unprecedented 14th HBO special, Carlin once again comes up with an hour of brand new material that not only makes you laugh, but makes you think.

George Carlin will always remain part of the popular lexicon for his "Seven Dirty Words" routine, and as a comedian who was never afraid to challenge his audience.

Carlin on The Jackie Gleason Show - January 25, 1969

Winner of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor
14th special from legendary stand-up comedian George Carlin!

He was better than this - Optimized -
I am definitely a George Carlin fan and have been for decades, but this performance is a sad end to a brilliant career. In fact, I think the last couple-few HBO specials he did showed that his performances were becoming much less the brilliantly astute observational comedy used as a tool to break down absurd social constructs and instead seemed to just feature him becoming plain mean and self-righteous. The expression "crotchety old man" comes to mind. I dearly love the bulk of his work and will miss his insightful voice, but it's sad to me that he ended on this note.

#1 Cheap Penelope Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

I'll be honest, my roommate forced me to watch this, and I expected it to be pretty lame. Instead, I ADORED it. The look of the movie is awesome--lots of color and texture. The feel of it is a bit surrealistic, like a Roald Dahl book, which I don't always like, but I think they did it just right this time. The hero and heroine are utterly charming and their love story is just beautiful. It feels very real, not just a series of romantic cliches. Also, Penelope's pig-nose is very well done; it's startling, and you can understand why so many people react badly to it, but it's done in such a way that you get used to it, and it even becomes sort of cute. It would have been easy for the movie's creators to either make it hideous or negligible, and either one would have damaged the story.

This movie is sweet and charming in every way. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Better than I thought it would be - M - I wait behind the wall, gnawing away at your reality
I rented this from a Redbox, expecting a fairly entertaining flick after reading the summary. However, this movie is truly wonderful and deserves all the positive ratings. So many movies throw in smut scenes and crap like that, but this movie was actually very clean and kid-safe, which is a fresh breath in today's society where people slap sex onto things to sell them.

The story is enjoyable, with a nice mishmash of characters (especially the midget) with a surprising and very satisfying ending that is actually very thought-provoking. I also liked the general public's reaction when Penelope finally reveals herself and the events that follow, this movie is really a enjoyable one and I would recommend it to just about anyone except for people who are really averse to the general chick-flick genre.

#1 Cheap The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 1: 1934-1936 Reviews

Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

In March 1934, Moe Howard, Larry Fine and the brilliant Curly Howard made their indelible mark on popular culture when they entered the realm of the Columbia Short Subjects Department. Though it took a few years for the Three Stooges to fully hit their stride, this beautifully restored 1934-36 collection includes several two-reel gems. However, be prepared for the musical novelty of "Woman Haters" - an inauspicious debut featuring Larry as the atypical lead and tiresome rhyming dialogue. Happily, the Stooges bounced back in their second short, "Punch Drunks" (a National Film Registry selection), with the team's immortal characterizations firmly in place. By 1935, Mack Sennett veteran Del Lord helped Moe, Larry and Curly find their slapstick niche in wild classics such as "Pardon My Scotch," "Uncivil Warriors" and "Three Little Beers." More than any Columbia director, Lord established the trio's frenetic style while making the fastest two-reelers in cinema history. The highlight of 1936 was "Disorder in the Court" - quintessential Stooge madness and the best directorial effort from Jack White (a k a Preston Black). In retrospect, the 1934 hospital hijinks of "Men in Black" - the team's only Oscar-nominated short - pales in comparison to "Dizzy Doctors" (1937) and "Calling All Curs" (1939). Little did Academy voters realize that the Three Stooges were only getting warmed up.

Not every episode is complete or uncut - BeBe Video Productions - Lafayette, LA United States
Being a big stooge fan since I was a kid a long time ago, it doesn't take a lot to please me with a 3 Stooges Video set. All you need to do is provide every episode uncut, a nice clear picture and good audio. I don't even need any extras on the DVD set. And this set does provide a great picture and audio. But at least one episode is cut and that is "Punch Drunks". If you remember the episode, Curly goes from being a gentle, inept fighter to a unstoppable champion whenever he hears the tune "Pop Goes the Weasel". In fact, Curly will dispense with anyone near him when he hears the music, friend or foe. Moe is Curly's manager and Larry's job is to provide the music, so that Curly can win the fight. Naturally, things keep happening to the music throughout the short. Finally at the end, Larry gets hold of a truck with a P.A. system on the roof (unlawfully, of course) and crashes it through the wall of the boxing arena. Curly hears the music and as the song ends, he has won the fight. It is at this point that the episode is cut because take notice that not only is his opponent out cold on the floor of the ring but so are lot of other people. You may wonder where they came from? What you didn't see because of what was cut out was the following: After the music ends and he wins the fight, people climb into the ring to congratulate Curly. At this point, the music starts up again on the truck. Curly thens boxes everyone in the rink unconscious. But you won't see that because it has been cut out. I remember this episode well, so I readily noticed that it was missing. So are other episodes cut on this set? Only other people's memories could tell us. It was very disappointing that studios continue to put out sets that are billed as complete but aren't.
