#1 Cheap New York, I Love You Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

In 2004 I watched -- and immediately went out to buy -- "Love Actually", which is set in London. The premise of these films is simple: several love stories, at different stages, all set in the same world-famous city, many interwoven with each other. For anyone unfamiliar with proper filmmaking, short films are always the entree for film students and others wanting to catch their lightning in a jar. For big-time directors like Brett Ratner of Rush Hour fame, it's an exacting exercise to encapsulate a completed idea into a very small space. Each segment runs about 7 or 8 minutes, then segues into the next. Last year I came across "Paris Je'Taime", which was another brilliant installment in this genre. Major actors, major directors, major writers, and the up-and-coming as well.

"New York I Love You" is the latest (and promised NOT to be the last, with a blurb about an upcoming "Shanghai I Love You" in the bonus features) in this series. Some reviewers thought the movie had no through-composed theme or narrative, which only exposes their ignorance. It's like saying the Bible has no through-composed theme or narrative. Both are COLLECTIONS of stories anthologised into one piece of work. "New York I Love You" is, to me, what pure non-Hollywood filmmaking is all about. It's probably what film festivals SHOULD be about. It also appeals to the younger generation who, beside being interested in their favourite stars appearing, will appreciate the brevity of the segments (love stories for short attention spans). It's stupid to compare this to a Woody Allen film simply because it's filmed in the Big Apple.

This film is highly recommended to anyone who likes love stories, who appreciates good acting and excellent directing/writing. It's a mini-seminar in how to make wonderful, accessible art films. I also highly recommend the other two movies mentioned in this review. Its only flaw is that the editing/segueways between a few of the shorts is poor. Love Actually (Widescreen Edition)and Paris, Je T'Aime (Paris, I Love You)are stronger in this area. All in all, it's still a near perfect movie, and each vignette features one of the most talked-about and oft-filmed co-stars of all time: the City of New York. DVD features two additional shorts -- one with a sepia-toned Kevin Bacon in Coney Island, and the second a very interesting"foreign" type film -- and interviews with some of the directors. Five stars all around, and buy it here 'cause it's cheapest!

New York, I Love You Overview

AN ANTHOLOGY FILM JOINING SEVERAL LOVE STORIES SET IN ONE OF THE MOST LOVED CITIES OF THE WORLD, NEW YORK

Eh... - K. Blankenship -
When I picked this up in Blockbuster, I was hoping for something a tad bit more romantic and closer to Love Actually (Widescreen Edition). I was not satisfied.

This movie follows tons of people as they go about their romantic lives in New York. There were just way too many different stories going on and you'd start to like one story and then that story was never brought up again. It also was very sad, something I wasn't really wanting or expecting.

I guess my main problem was that the movie was not what I was expecting it to be. It's not for everyone and one big problem with there being so many different characters was the fact that you never really got to see any one character for long enough to actually feel like you knew the character.

I was disappointed, but a lot of people liked it, so I'd say go ahead and check it out because it is not for everyone.

#1 Cheap Kipper - Friendship Tails Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

My almost four year old child loved the DVD. I agree with all the good reviews here and just wanted to mention two features which are just great.
First: there are no ads. No previews, no advertising of any kind.
Second: the dvd is not only in English, it can be played in Spanish. This is great.
Ah! and the music is very lovely, some sort of soft jazz that accompanies the action very well. All in all a great buy, I will be adding other titles of Kipper to our collection.

#1 Cheap Hedwig and the Angry Inch (New Line Platinum Series) Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

John Cameron Mitchell's "baby", "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", may be low-budget, but its depth of content makes it a masterpiece. Mitchell's inspiration is clearly Plato's "The Symposium", a group of speeches by ancient Greeks who met at a banquet to "praise Eros". The speeches present different views on the concepts of love and soulmates, and "Hedwig" uses those philosophical examinations as she takes her own journey to find "completion". Stephen Trask's soudtrack perfectly reflects the sentiments presented in "Symposium" but in a quirky, modern way. The centerpiece of "Symposium", Aristophanes creation story, in which he posits that we began as '3 sexes' rather than 2 who were fused together (male/male, female/female, male/female), then cut in half by Zeus' lightening bolt and left to wander around the Earth looking for our "other half", is reflected in the song "Origin of Love", which is the centerpiece of the film. In the movie, Hedwig (born Hansel), has been struggling "her" whole life; her life changes when she undergoes a botched sex change operation in order to move to America with a G.I. When he leaves, Hedwig is again lost, and she eventually finds her way to Tommy Gnosis, with whom she enters a paiderastic relationship: she gives him knowledge, he gives her affection. Since Hedwig can't literally give birth, her babies are her songs; she prides herself on her music. After teaching Tommy her songs, he "runs off with the good stuff", and she's left with nothing. Hedwig thinks she has found her soulmate in Tommy, but he turns out to be more "bad" than "beautiful". In the end, she must learn that she doesn't need "another half" to be complete; she is whole all along. The images are at first shocking, but once you get past the make-up and wig, what is left is a self-examination so vulnerable, so pure, and so beautiful...

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (New Line Platinum Series) Overview

THIS IS THE STORY OF HEDWIG, AN AMBITIOUS GLAM-ROCKER WHO COMES TO AMERICA DETERMINED TO FIND FAME, FORTUNE AND HIS OTHER HALF.

I love this film! - -
This DVD was brand new and packaged appropriately... I watched this movie several times- before I went out and bought this DVD. Love the movie- so I can't complain.

#1 Cheap Taxi: The Complete Series Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

One of the best all time comedy series. The writting was always superb. The actors on this show where all top notch. This collection does not come in one box. All seasons come in separate boxes. But at least you get the complete series at a good price. Buy it. Not many TV shows where better or funnier than this one. This show is an example of where each actor was excellent in his own right, but, when you put the whole group together, the show became magic.

#1 Cheap I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

For binge-drinking frat-boy types and the women who love them. This film adaptation is something else: a mediocre gross-out movie that barely pushes the envelope. However, if you're a frat boy who loves beer or just get that humor then you'll enjoy this.

An early scene follows the author, Tucker (Matt Czuchry) and his buddies Drew (Jesse Bradford) and Dan (Geoff Stults) into a bar where Tucker, the threesome's leader and provocateur, initiates flirtatious verbal warfare. After he rudely assesses the physical attributes of the women within earshot, insults and epithets begin to fly. Except for one plain goody-two-shoes, who is offended by Tucker's fondness for sexist trash talk, the women fight back.

This is also no better than a dozen other Hollywood guy movies like "The Hangover." Mr. Czuchry is also less of a jock than the author he plays. A tarnished towheaded angel with a maniacal grin, Mr. Czuchry comes across as a potty-mouthed little boy.

The most developed character, the misanthropic Drew, has a heart of gold beneath a sour, suspicious attitude acquired after his traumatic discovery of a girlfriend giving oral sex to a rapper. In the scenes following his hook-up (after an extended verbal skirmish) with Lara (Marika Dominczyk), a stripper and single mother of an adorable tot, the movie turns as squishy sweet as a Disney Christmas film.

The screenplay consists largely of bits and pieces of Mr. Tucker Max's book, many borrowed from the Austin Road Trip section, slapped onto the chronicle of Dan's disastrous bachelor party, arranged by Tucker, in a strip club. While a badly battered Dan lands in jail, his marital future in question, Tucker finds himself dashing naked through a hotel lobby with a case of explosive diarrhea from a can of beer laced with a laxative by a vengeful woman. Need I say more? This unfortunate incident is what may turn off some to the film. Not only is it more uncomfortable to watch than funny, but it's supposed to be the incident that redeems this somewhat heartless protagonist into someone of genuine compassion. I fear it doesn't particularly do the trick, but rather sloppily ruins what could've been of "The Hangover" caliber.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell Overview

Based on the best-selling playbook for gettin’ some, this uproarious, unrated release is so shockingly raunchy, it “will leave you gasping (if not gagging) with laughter” (Entertainment Weekly)! Starring Matt Czuchry, Geoff Stults, Jesse Bradford and Traci Lords, and full of bawdy sex and barely legal fun, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell “is the Godfather of raucous, twenty-something comedies” (IGN)!

A connoisseur of fast times and faster women, Tucker Max (Czuchry) unleashes his wit and wants on every unsuspecting female around – from horny hotties to aroused cougars to one amorous dwarf – for one night of non-stop debauchery. But the night gets out of control when the boys meet a stripper who can match their misogynist mouths, and Tucker becomes the butt of a vengeful practical joke. Nothing is sacred in one of the “smartest, most well-written, disgusting, hilarious, endearing, offensive and downright best comedies within its genre to date” (IGN)!

What do you expect? - -
Could not watch the first 20 minutes of the movie. It skipped and acted like it has a scratch but their is nothing visible. Could quite possibly chalk it up to bad luck....

Tim and Eric awesome show is awesome! What else is there to say? :) I now have all the seasons they have available on dvd! #1 Cheap Bye Bye Birdie Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Having viewed the opening title song for this remake on YOU TUBE, I finally purchased it and have to sing its praises. I recently rewatched the original with Dick Van Dyke and while I liked him, that original rang falsely and its acting was quite stiff and unconvincing. Everyone in this remake brings a fresher, more realistic performance to its story, without overdoing things to the point of corniness, which the original did. (Dick Van Dyke's Put on a Happy Face had "happy faces" in it! In this version, Jason Alexander cheers up a glum teenage girl singing that song at the train station in a natural song and dance sequence.) Neither the Kim nor Conrad nor the teens or the adults come off like caricatures; they're all portrayed with a fresh enthusiasm that is catching. Vanessa Williams does justice to the Rosie role and the direction lets the musical's plot flow easily from beginning to end. For someone who lived through Beatlemania (born a bit too late for Elvis), this is the version that shows what it's like to be young and in love with life when your idol comes to town.

Closer to the stage play than the original version - Joanne S. Whitman - Central Illinois
I enjoyed this 1995 version better than the original version. I bought it because our community theatre is performing it this summer. It is much closer to the stage play than the Dick Van Dyke version. Vanessa Williams is amazing but I thought Chynna Phillips was sorely miscast. She was boring and too old for the part.

#1 Cheap Father of the Bride Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

George Banks is an ordinary, middle-class man whose 21 year-old daughter Annie has decided to marry a man from an upper-class family, but George can't think of what life would be like without his daughter. He becomes slightly insane, but his wife tries to make him happy for Annie, but when the wedding takes place at their home and a foreign wedding planner takes over the ceremony, George must try to handle the fact that people grow up. This movie definitely has it's share in sentimentality, especially towards the end, pretty much most of the last thirty minutes, but it is still funny, and you don't lose interest in it. A great family comedy, it is pretty much funny for all ages. This is a good movie to sit down with the entire family and watch. Most people will enjoy it, and most people will find at least a few things to laugh at in it. A heart warming movie that will make you laugh and cry.

Father of the Bride Overview

In this hilarious update of the much-loved Hollywood classic, Steve Martin turns in a winning performance as George Banks, the befuddled father who has a hard time letting go of his young daughter (charming newcomer Kimberly Williams) when she unexpectedly announces her plans to wed. Tickling funnybones and touching hearts of critics and audiences alike, this entertaining treat chronicles George's hysterical trials and tribulations leading up to the big event. Diane Keaton shines as George's patient, level-headed wife, while funnyman Martin Short lights up the screen as the off-the-wall wedding consultant. FATHER OF THE BRIDE promises to love, honor, and deliver the kind of motion picture fun you'll thoroughly enjoy.

A Movie to Love - Sharon - CA
This is a movie I can watch every couple of years or so and thoroughly enjoy. Steve Martin is as nuanced and funny as ever. Martin Short's character is such a character, that you end up believing in his character. Dian Keaton and the rest are well-cast, and the movie spins multiple layers without trying too hard. The movie is very class conscious so some might not like that. But, overall this is a funny and warm family movie to love. The Amazon reviewer needs a new line of work.

#1 Cheap Pirate Radio Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

If you love the music of the sixties and occasionally wax nostalgic when thinking about (or remembering) the crazy antics, fashions and moral ambiguities of this decade then the 2009 release 'Pirate Radio' is the movie for you. The film more than just succeeds in capturing the emerging, rebellious spirit of the times and the rigid, social structure that viewed this 'new music' and accompanying lifestyle choices as such a threat to the fabric of existence. The prevailing mindset of both sides were well defined, quirky and humorous, yet telling at the same time. Ah, the British do have a way with comedy, don't they?

What really set this film apart for me was the extraordinary, off-the-wall cast of characters floating about on the high seas while devoting themselves to delivering the rock and roll gospel to the masses on shore. It's definitely the antics, verbal rantings and altogether dysfunctional personalities of this insane group of DJ's and assorted rock junkies that make this film a memorable, thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience.

Pirate Radio Overview

From the creator of Love Actually and Notting Hill comes a trip back to the freewheeling, free-loving ’60s when the very rock music that inspired a generation was censored by the government. When a group of rebellious deejays decides to defy the ban, they take to the seas to broadcast music and mayhem to millions of adoring fans. Featuring a soundtrack that includes The Who, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and many more, it’s a feel-great film based on a true story that critics cheer is “exuberant!” (John Powers, Vogue)

Pirate Radio ROCKS! - DJ Dave -
I worked for many years on radio and have to say I LOVED the movie. The music was authentic and the "jocks" were as zany as any I ever worked with. While the sabatage(in the extras and outakes of the movie)of the competing station was a bit over the top they were fun and all the characters were believable. When the station went off the air at midnight the listener reaction was genuine just as was the counter reaction when the Count said "Skrew this.. we aren't going off". If you have not see PIRATE RADIO I highly recommend it. And if you ever worked in top 40 radio as a DJ it is a must-see. The ending is just unforgetable. I don't wanna spoil it if you have not seen it but let me assure everyone it is a great one!
ROCK & ROLL Will NEVER die!

#1 Cheap Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Secret of the Ooze Reviews

After the sucess of the 1st film, it was clear that a 2nd installment of the TMNT saga was on the cards, TMNT 2 The Secret of The Ooze was bigger, more action packed and somehow still keeps the story intact.

The story takes place am gueseing A few days after the 1st film, the turtles have got rid of Shredder and his Foot ninjas and have made New York city safe again.....or did they?, because somehow Shredder is back, he is P***ed off and has revenge on his mind, so now the turtles have to stop him once more but it won't be easy.

TMNT 2 has some good characterisation which is always good to have in any movie, the action set pieces are once again fast and fun, the film also has some great funny moments, the only beef I got with the TMNT films is the movie soundtrack, for example Vilnila Ice? W.T.F.!....anyway dispite my beef with the music, TMNT 2 will keep kids, adults and TMNT fans entertained for 88mins

The Ninja Turtles were such a large part of my childrens youth that when I saw that the movies were available on DVD I had to get them. My oldest recevied them as a college graduation gift and enjoyed sharing them with his girlfriend, who had never seen them before. I expect that someday he will share them with his children as well. The 3 movies are classics for my grown children.

#1 Cheap Lewis Black: Stark Raving Black Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Lewis Black, the popular American stand-up comedian known for his angry rants, taking on politics and and religion and seen on Comedy Central's "The Root of All Evil" and on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" for his "Back in Black" commentary segment.

Earning his Masters in Fine Arts at the Yale School of Drama, Lewis Black is well-known for his intelligent take on politics and the absurdities of life, compared to comedic greats such as George Carlin and Lenny Bruce, Lewis Black is well-respected in the industry and having had his fair share of Comedy Central specials, Black returns with "Stark Raving Black", a comedy film shot at the Fillmore Detroit in Detroit, Michigan on August 2009. The DVD also features a 70-minute documentary titled "BASIC BLACK: The Lewis Black Story" on his life and career and most importantly how he became one of the most successful comedians in America.

Here is a chapter listing of what is included in "Stark Raving Black":

1. Expectations
2. Democrats & Republicans
3. Mainstream Comedian
4. Vince Gill, Amy Grant & Me
5. Hitting 60
6. Birth & Death
7. Parents
8. The Economy
9. Greed
10. Alternative Energy
11. hope

VIDEO:

Lewis Black's "Stark Raving Black" was shot in HD and is presented on DVD via Widescreen Format enhanced for 16:9 TV's. This film features a camera focused directly on Lewis Black, a camera behind him, one near the audience and we get closeups of the audience reaction to his jokes. No dizzying cuts, editing was well done as well as lighting. Black is not one of those comedians that does a lot of moving around the stage, so the shots are well-planned and you get a good balance of close-ups, full body shots and audience reactions. Since the original source was in HD, picture quality is very good on DVD and I wouldn't be surprised if "Stark Raving Black" receives a Blu-ray release in the near future.

As for "BASIC BLACK: The Lewis Black Story", the documentary ranges from new footage to really older comedy video clips, so PQ definitely varies for the documentary. But overall, the older scenes are watchable.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

"Lewis Black - Stark Raving Black" is presented in DTS English 5.1 Surround, Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround and English 2.0 Stereo. This is pretty good as most comedy DVD's are presented in Dolby Digital Stereo. Subtitles are in English SDH.

I was absolutely pleased with the audio and once again, because it was shot in HD, I wouldn't be surprised if the film does receive a Blu-ray release in the future and the audio gets a lossless track. Surrounds are good in bringing out the crowd reactions, center and front channel does a good job in bringing the dialogue out and dialogue is clear and understandable. Rarely do you see comedy performances with a DTS soundtrack, so I thought that was pretty cool to see this audio feature included. And if you have a modern home theater receiver, one may want to try to have stereo on all channels for a more immersive soundscape.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

"Lewis Black - Stark Raving Black" comes with the 70-minute documentary "Basic Black: The Lewis Black Story" featuring the life of Lewis Black. Featuring never-before-seen footage from Black's earlier career, interviews with friends, fellow comedians, his touring crew and also his family, from his love for food (and accidentally mistaking sand dollars for cookies) and more! The documentary definitely is a wonderful inclusion on this DVD!

EXTRAS:

"Lewis Black - Stark Raving Black" comes with a slip cover. Also, included is an insert which is folded up and is actually a poster for the "Stark Raving Black" film.

JUDGMENT CALL:

Lewis Black is one of those comedian's that stays in your memory. Similar to how Sam Kinison is remembered for his ranting comedy, Lewis Black is more on the intellectual side as he takes on politics, religion and the absurdities of life but once he begins his monologue, we see his transformation to a man in rage.

For those familiar with Lewis Black's rants on the "Back in Black" segments from "The Daily Show with John Stewart" should know that Black has a lot to say about the nation's politics and his disgust for both parties. For fans of Lewis Black's work, fans will be entertained by Black's comedic presentation. There is no signs of laughs waning with his performance, nor are their boring spots throughout the whole performance. Black makes sure that with each topic he is discussing, the rhythm is right and the rants are perfectly timed. He knows when to use it and the audience responds. This is a man now in his 60's and the year's haven't made him mellow, in fact, all the stupidity in the world ignites him even more.

When Lewis Black is asked by people that since President Bush has left office, what is he going to do? Black is a logical performer and as if Bush's leaving the office is going to end stupidity in America? Lewis is also not afraid to let people know what he thinks about both Republicans and Democrats.

Black also talks about taking part in the USO Christmas tour and how he was chosen as entertainment for the troops and to make things more crazy, he had to follow Vince Gill and his wife Amy Grant (both are Christians) and for the first time in his life, he felt a taste of Christianity and he had to get away.

Black just doesn't miss a beat as he talks about hitting 60, talking about the recession and economic times, having an iPhone and using AT&T's crappy mobile service and more. And even though Black is known for being a ranting madman, his comedy does make sense, it's smart and hilarious and it makes him one of the unique comedians out there and his film "Stark Raving Black" definitely shows him at the top of his game. No signs of slowing down and as long as their is stupidity in the world, Black will be there to call it like it is.

So, "Stark Raving Black" is an entertaining comedy DVD and what I found wonderful about this release is that his career is celebrated through the documentary "BASIC BLACK: The Lewis Black Story". Everything one would want to know about Lewis Black is in this documentary. Classic clips from Black's earlier years, discussions with friends and family about working with him when he first started and working with him today. Fans of Lewis Black will want this DVD not only for his fine performance but also for the documentary.

Overall, "Stark Raving Black" is a wonderful Lewis Black comedy DVD. If you are familiar with his style of comedy and have been enjoying his comedy for many years, this DVD is more than just a comedy film, it's a celebration of Lewis Black's comedy career! Definitely recommended!

Stark Raving Black Productions proudly presents the comedy of Lewis Black in 80 minutes of outrageous stand-up humor. The documentary gives an intimate portrait of what it's like to "lick every inch of the ladder" on the way to becoming one of the most successful comedians in America.

Lewis Black is a god! - Robert Glickman -
Lewis Black is hilarious once again on this DVD. His off the cuff, raw rants are just what we need right now in a time of mediocre comedy. I can't get enough of it, and recommend it for sure! Get on it now!

#1 Cheap Clone High: Complete 1st Season Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Possibly the most quotable show in history (and about history).

I came into Clone High a little late, I remember seeing the show on MTV at the time it was on (the no sleep episode), but didn't really watch it all till about 6 months ago, when I discovered most of the 13 episodes could be seen on youtube for free.

That said, after seeing 3 episodes on youtube, I immediately bought the DVD. This is an awesome show, its wacky, immediately funny, and subversive all at the same time. It literally has something for everyone. There's immediate, stupid humor, historical humor, stuff thats much more subversive, parodies of everything from teen dramas to looney tunes to Benny Hill to Christmas specials and beyond.

Its a shame that this show was shut down because it apparently offended Indians due to its portrayal of Ghandi. I can understand why Indians wouldn't like the Ghandi character, but seriously, they make a point several times of saying that its a CLONE of Ghandi. Oh well, pick a less iconic historical figure next time, I guess (though no one complained about "Hesus Christo").

But the writing, seriously. SO good. These guys knew how to take a joke to its breaking point. They would run things about two beats further than they should, and it would end up super funny. Family Guy could learn a few things from this show.

That said, I'm actually not sure how they would've worked a 2nd season. Over the course of 13 episodes, they had slowly driven the episodes so over the top (example: compare the amount of bloodshed on the first disc to the second disc) that by the end of everything I don't really know where they could've taken it. Any further and it would've been WAY TOO FAR over the top (a line they already were skipping across by the end of everything) or they would've repeated themselves. Either way, great show, but it had its own self-imposed limits. I suppose the cancellation makes it sort of a mini-series. And thats fine, I guess. It works perfect that way.

Still, great parody of teen dramas, and great writing. Not only was I laughing my [...] off, but by the end of everything I actually found myself caring whether or not Joan and Abe would get together. Pretty impressive that a parody show would still make its characters emotionally resonant.

If you can get it for under [...] you totally should. If not, well, there's always youtube.

Worth the purchase - William T. Dee III - Outside Philadelphia
This show was on when I was 19 and a soph in college. I only remember watching 3 episodes, The first one, The extreme blue one, and the ghandi has ADD, but I thought it was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Since I purchased the DVD's, I have shown it to my friends who all think it is great. Worth every penny.

Now if we could just get the first 2 seasons of Sifl and Olly on DVD, that would be AMAZING.

What a delightful comedy series this is even after almost 30 years. The financial calamity engulfing the world at present has exposed much of the machinery of government as countries around the world seek to attribute blame for the credit crunch.

All of which makes this series ever the more timely. As a great fan of Parliamentary knockabout (Questions to the Prime Minister, Spitting Image), I recall this show on a weekly basis even while watching Gordon brown take questions for the House of Commons. For all the talk of permanent revolution which has pervaded the Home Civil Service for well over the 12 years of Labour governments, this show reminds one of how little has changed.

That is not to say that many of the issues raised in the show, such as the number of women in senior positions, have not been dealt with, but to what extent has the establishment, in the form of the Old Boy's Network, been disempowered? How many of the jobs of the top echelons of the Civil Service been given to non-Oxbridge graduates.? The opening up of the London Financial Community to non-graduate traders gave the political system a jolt which encouraged the employment of non-traditional graduates into many fields. What was intended as a bourgeousie expansion became little more than an affectation of upper middle and upper class behaviours and airs as well as aspirations. Private schools attracted many candidates from lower income families who scrimped and saved so that their offspring cound advance up the social and economic ladders.

The relevance of this is clear. Imagine an updated version of this show again written from an insider's perspective. I think it would be very similar although the furnishings and offices would be more expensive as well as expansive.

Yes, Minister continues to have relevance and many of the jokes still find a response from viewers. My son, about to embark on a year long civics course at high school, found it quite funny despite some of the very British comments and with some background explanation.

Perhaps it could be reissued with a special features disc including clips of Westminster Model of government as well as views from interested observers, like unions, think tanks, journalists and MPs. One wonders if the reception in the House of Commons which led to police officers arresting one participant was to discuss this item?

Yes Minister: The Complete Collection Overview

In politics, you have to really get behind somebody before you can stab them in the back! Named one of the Top Ten TV programs of all time by the British Film Institute, this brilliantly observed comedy of manners pits the well-meaning Jim Hacker, a newly appointed Cabinet Minister, against the machinations of a career civil servant, Sir Humphrey Appleby, in the ultimate political marriage of inconvenience. Paul Eddington (Good Neighbors) stars as the The Right Honorable Jim Hacker, a role that was written especially for him, and Academy Award nominee Nigel Hawthorne (The Madness of King George) first drew wide notice in the role of Sir Humphrey Appleby. Yes Minister is the first - and only - series to win the British Academy Award for Best Comedy three years running.

Yes, Minister! - Southern Tenor - US
Yes, Minister! is a series used by our non-profit leadership training organization because of the many stories that involve the use of integrity in the workplace. While we laugh at the lines, scenes, and acting, our students understand the storylines and find themselves nodding in complete understanding. This set has become a valuable asset to our organziation. Thank goodness for the discs because all we had were tired video tapes.

#1 Cheap M*A*S*H TV Season 8 Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This is the season we see a big change with Corporal Radar O' Riley leaving the show. It just never seems the same without him. However the cast carrys on to what is another great season. This season includes the following episodes:

Too Many Cooks
The 4077th pays host to Pvt. Paul "Look Out Below" Conway, the clumsiest man in the army. Though Conway is a total loss as a soldier, he turns out to be a brilliant gourmet chef, which is why the doctors and nurses are bending over backward to keep him in camp. Meanwhile, Col. Potter wrestles with a profoundly personal problem.

Private Finance
Klinger offers money to an impoverished South Korean girl. The girl's mother misunderstands, and before long Klinger is accused of despoiling the young woman. While all this is transpiring, Hawkeye is having his own problems trying to keep a promise made to a dying patient.

Yessir, That's Our Baby
A wartime fling between an American GI and a Korean woman has resulted in an abandoned infant. The gang at the 4077th realize that the baby will be shunned by the Koreans for being "mixed." Thus it is that the M*A*S*H gang dedicates itself to the difficult task of finding a good and loving home for the little castaway.

Stars and Stripes
Margaret wonders if she should renew her battlefiled romance with scrappy soldier Jack Scully, especially since he's been busted to Private for punching out an officer. On another front, B.J. and Charles are asked to collaborate on a medical-journal article describing a recent life-saving operation.

Captain's Outrageous
Will Father Mulcahy finally get the promotion that has so long been denied him? Though sympathetic to Mulcahy's plight, the doctors of the 4077th have got problems of their own. A big brawl at Rosie's bar has sent the proprietor to a hospital bed and placed the doctors in charge of dispensing liquor to the customers.

Dear Uncle Abdul
Now it is Klinger's turn to write a letter home. In a missive to his Uncle Abdul in Toledo, Klinger details the trials and tribulations of his new position as company clerk in fact, he's so busy he can't even get his letter finished. Meanwhile, the doctors are faced with the possibility that one of the wounded soldiers is mentally challenged.

Life Time
In an episode cowritten by M*A*S*H's medical consultant, the 4077th must perform immediate surgery on a soldier with a severely lacerated aorta. With only 20 minutes to close the wound and restore circulation, Hawkeye and B.J. must rely upon an aortic graft. This puts the doctors in the unenviable position of hoping that the potential graft donor, a GI with a fatal head wound, will die in enough time to save the life of their patient.

Mr. and Mrs. Who?
Returning from Tokyo with a massive hangover, Charles is confronted with the possibility that he might have gotten married while drunk. And that's hardly the end of Charles' problems, as he and the other doctors tackle a plague of deadly hemorrhagic fever. Making matters worse, the staff of the 4077th has been ordered not to treat any of the fever victims.

Nurse Doctor
Father Mulcahy generously offers to help a pretty nurse study for her medical-school entrance exams. Unfortunately, the girl responds in a manner far too affectionate for the celibate Mulcahy. Meanwhile, the rest of the camp tries to figure out how to take showers with an extremely limited water supply.

Guerilla My Dreams
Hawkeye crosses swords with Lt. Hung Lae Park, a ruthless and determined ROK officer. At the center of the conflict is a wounded Korean woman, whose life Hawkeye is determined to save. But Park insists that the woman is an enemy guerilla--and as such must be turned over to him for a particularly brutal round of interrogations.

Good-Bye Radar, Part 1
In this first episode of a two-part story, the 4077th's resourceful company clerk Radar O'Reilly is on a well-deserved leave in Tokyo. Colonel Potter for one cannot wait until Radar returns; thanks to the combined ineptitude of Klinger and Zale, the camp's generator is on the blink, leaving the doctors and nurses without electricity. Only Radar has the smarts to requistion a new generator in a hurry but fate has other things in store for the mild-mannered corporal.

Period of Adjustment
With Radar gone, Klinger is overwhelmed by his new responsibilities as company clerk a situation that Col. Potter tries to remedy. Meanwhile, a depressed B.J., yearning to be reunited with his family, has a violent falling out with his pal Hawkeye. Before long, the entire camp is looking for Klinger and B.J., who have gone off together on a spectacular bender.

Good-Bye Radar, Part 2
In the conclusion of a two-part story, Cpl. Radar O'Reilly discovers that his uncle has died, leaving him the man of the family and as such, he qualifies for a hardship discharge from the army. Although no one at the 4077th wants to see Radar go, the gang decides to throw a farewell party in his honor. As Klinger struggles with the daunting prospect of filling Radar's shoes as company clerk, the little corporal becomes more and more certain that the 4077th won't be able to survive without him.

Are You Now, Margaret?
Ostensibly visiting the 4077th on a standard fact-finding tour, Congressional aide R. Theodore Williamson turns out to be a stooge for the McCarthyites. As such, Williamson is determined to prove that innocent Margaret is a Commie-loving security risk. Hawkeye and B.J. cook up a scheme to save Margaret's military career and, incidentally, to make Williamson look a bigger jackass than he already is.

Bottle Fatigue
Having toted up a humongous bar tab, Hawkeye vows that he will make the supreme sacrifice. No, he's not giving up drinking, but he does intend to stay stone cold sober for a whole entire week. Meanwhile, aristocratic Charles tries to prevent his sister from marrying "beneath her station."

Dreams
Everyone at the 4077th is suffering from the fatigue of a medical crisis. Unable to go to sleep for any great length of time, the staff begins taking little cat-naps. The result is a series of dreams and nightmares that are as bizarre as anything out of a Luis Bunuel or Ingmar Bergman movie.

Back Pay
Doing some creative math in his off-hours, Hawkeye figures out how much money he would have made during the Korean war if he'd been a civilian doctor. Dutifully annotating the results, Hawkeye presents the Army with a bill for services rendered. And on another front, Charles arrogantly demonstrates the latest American doctoral techniques to three Korean medics and thereby sets himself up for another generous serving of Humble Pie.

M*A*S*H: April Fools
April Fool's Day is practically a legal holiday at the 4077th, with the staffers falling over themselves performing all manner of practical jokes. Normally, even taciturn Col. Potter (Harry Morgan) would be joining in on the fun. This year, however, Potter wishes everyone would cease and desist: the notoriously humorless and extremely disciplinarian Col. Tucker (Pat Hingle) has arrived to conduct an inspection of the camp. This was the final episode of M*A*S*H's eighth season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

M*A*S*H: War Co-Respondent
Susan Saint James guest stars as Aggie O'Shea, a beautiful and energetic war correspondent. Upon arriving at the 4077th, Aggie immediately strikes up a friendship with B.J.. The plot thickens when the relationship between these two attractive people threatens to deepen into a romance--and remember, B.J. still has a wife back home. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

M*A*S*H: Goodbye, Cruel World
Hawkeye and psychiatrist Sidneytackle the problem of Sgt. Yee, a much-decorated war hero. It seems that Yee's fearlessness on the battlefield is a direct result of his trying to kill himself. Meanwhile, Klinger begins to wonder if it was such a good idea to forge Colonel Potter's name on a set of discharge papers.

M*A*S*H: Heal Thyself
Col. Potter and Charles prove to be difficult patients when both are quarantined with the mumps. It is particularly irksome for Charles, who fears that his temporary replacement Newsome, who has toted up an impressive combat surgery record, will prove to be better at the job than the man he's replacing. But things take an unexpected term during a medical emergency.

M*A*S*H: Old Soldiers
Heading for a mysterious rendezvous "to take care of a sick friend" in Tokyo, Col. Potter leaves Hawkeye in charge of the 4077th. Hawkeye's first challenge: To deal with an onslaught of refugee Korean children. His second challenge: To find out why Potter is behaving so strangely upon his return.

Morale Victory
Col. Potter is fed up with the camp's bellyaching in general, and with the constant carping of Hawkeye and B.J. in particular. Hoping to shut everyone up, Potter appoints the two doctors as the 4077th's new morale officers. As Hawkeye and B.J. go about their seemingly insurmountable duties, Charles uses his knowledge of composer Maurice Ravel to give a seriously injured musical prodigy a new lease on life.

Lend a Hand
Hawkeye again crosses the path of arrogant older doctor Anthony Borelli. With ample reason to dislike one another, Hawk and Borelli are none too happy when they are forced to collaborateon an operation in the field. Back in camp, B.J. holds a curious "anniversary" party where everyone is invited.

Heal Thyself
Col. Potter and Charles prove to be difficult patients when both are quarantined with the mumps. The news quickly has Radar shipping stateside, followed by a period of adjustment as everyone tries to get used to a nervous and bumbling Klinger being in charge as company clerk. #1 Cheap Wonderfalls - The Complete Series Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

I did not see "Wonderfalls" in its original Fox run. I'm not surprised the show didn't last on television. I almost didn't make it all the way through the first DVD, with the first four episodes. The problem was the character of Jaye, our protagonist. She is a very difficult character to write, and act; she rides the thin line between being a charming free spirit and an annoying self-centered narcissist, between being likeable and unlikeable. Jaye's character difficulty sprang not from any lack of skill on the part of the writers or the actress, but from the sheer complexity of the character and the fact that it takes some practice to get a unique character like that right.

Once "Wonderfalls" gets over the speed bump that is the first 2-3 episodes, the show really hits its stride. During a broadcast run, a show only has that many episodes to build an audience; hence, its failure on TV. But we can enjoy the DVD knowing that it gets better. Funny, creative, and well-written and performed, "Wonderfalls" deserved better than it got, but at least we get to see it on DVD. "Wonderfalls" prefigures "Pushing Daisies" in tone. Fans of that show will probably enjoy "Wonderfalls", and should feel comfortable renting this or buying it outright. "Wonderfalls" is one of the rare television shows that can surprise you, which I like; it's not cookie-cutter at all. And, even though its run was cut short, the production team knew it was coming, so there is closure at the end and not an unresolved cliffhanger. This is worth viewing.

Wonder...falls Personally I wonder more about who are those network execs who feed us with that garbage that runs 24/7 on every channel? Why every decent show (or this case the best) survives between 4 episodes and up to 1-2 seasons?
This one is on my best DVDs shelf permanently, along with Daisies and Dead Like Me...
Still looking for more....

#1 Cheap Sesame Street Presents - Follow that Bird Reviews

This was the very first movie I ever saw in a movie theater and I remembered it vividly. I had to buy it when my children became interested in Sesame Street. It is as much fun as I remember it being plus some. The moral and songs are what you would expect of a Sesame Street movie. It was mentioned that Elmo isn't in it and personally it's nice not having a muppet that is always the favorite and the center of attention being the main character. My children love the movie and I enjoy being able to share a piece of my childhood.

#1 Cheap Under The Rainbow Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This is one of those unsuspected movies that didn't get a lot of play when it was first released (1981). It hearkens back to the Marx Bros. and is not dissimilar to Chevy's work with Goldie in "Foul Play" (1978). Sit back with a bowl of popcorn, put your feet up, and enjoy the silliness. There's some good acting in the movie, slapstick comedy, and sight gags all held together by the rock steady "normalcy" of Chevy and Carrie. Chevy mastered the subtle double take in this movie.

Under The Rainbow Overview

It was the largest gathering of little people ever, drawn from all over to appear in the movie of a classic children's story. They weren't in Kansas anymore. They were in Hollywood, home of wide-open lifestyles and nonstop parties.

This colorful screwball comedy uses the premise of 150 little people playing The Wizard of Oz's Munchkins housed in one Culver City hotel - and indulging in some high-energy partying - to spin zany screen mayhem with touches of romance (between G-man Chevy Chase and casting maven Carrie Fisher) and cockeyed espionage (involving German agent Billy Barty and Japanese spy Mako). Co-stars Eve Arden, Adam Arkin, Joseph Maher and Pat McCormick deliver tall orders of laughter, while smashing into small-fry shenanigans at every turn. There's no place like...Under the Rainbow.

#1 Cheap Inuyasha - Season 4 Box Set Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This was the only season of Inu Yasha That apparently didn't have anything episodes of Naraku but more with seemingly filler episodes of the groups quest to find Naraku after his disappearance. Don't let that discourage you though the episodes are still entertaining to watch as you see Inu yasha and the gang try and find clues on Naraku's whereabouts and during their travels confront demons no longer afraid to show themselves since Naraku isn't around to absorb or destroy them, also you'll have the usual minor villains around trying to do their own vile plans that the hero's must defeat. The animation is clean and clear with no complaints and as always the voice actors/actresses for both the Japanese and English cast did great, the only thing I can find some fault in is the price I got this when it was on sale at a lower price and since I already had two dvds of the season I felt that it was a pretty good deal instead of buying the rest of the season one dvd at a time. Some friends and people have asked is there a difference in video quality or audio with these box sets than the single dvds they've already bought?, and for that I would say no the video and audio are pretty much the same except that as expected the dvds of the box sets have more episodes on their dvds than the single dvds you separately. So if you've already got this season on dvd than pass this set over there won't be much difference and it will just be a waste of money, but if you've only bought one or two dvds or haven't gotten this season at all yet than of course get it and while you won't see Naraku the enjoyment of the episodes will more than make up for it...

#1 Cheap Office Space (Special Edition with Flair!) [Blu-ray] Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

There are a lot of funny movies out there, but not many can be said to have so perfectly skewered their subject that they become archetypes. "Office Space" fits this latter category, doing for the modern, post-1980 workplace what "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" did for the Arthurian legend. That is to say, "Office Space" has become a part of our common culture, with shared concepts like "pieces of flair" and "Is this good for the COMPANY?" being common to the experience not only of cubicle slaves but all of us.

Further, "Office Space", despite its outrageous plot, is just close enough to the truth of modern corporate America to hit home. Companies do promote incompetents and lay off their most skilled workers, all in the name of short-term quarterly profits. They do treat their employees like drones while rewarding upper management for cheating shareholders. To see this all turned against them goes a long way in explaining the success of "Office Space." It's a classic.

#1 Cheap Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVI [Limited Edition] Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

"Mystery Science Theater 3000 Volume XVI" is another winner from our friends at Best Brains and Shout Factory. Again, this set finds Joel, Mike and the Bots mocking four laughably bad movies from all across the cinematic horizon, and thoughtfully adds deluxe packaging with a miniature Tom Servo statuette and four mini posters.

While these films aren't my all-time favorites from the series, they are thoroughly mocked, and filled with many extras (my favorite are the Turkey Day 1995 spots and "Santa Claus Conquers the Devil") that make this an unbeatable package. The four films are "The Corpse Vanishes," "Warrior of the Lost World," Santa Claus," and "Night of the Blood Beast."

"The Corpse Vanishes," with a "Commando Cody" short (Episode 105) was the most trying of the episodes for me. Despite a hammy performance by Bela Lugosi as a mad scientist (what a shocker,) who has invented a special scent to further his evil plans, I just couldn't get into this movie. I view this as worthwhile mostly as a historical relic, as it's from the first season, showing off the humble KTMA roots of MST3K, complete with an even cheesier look than normal and, of course, the original voice of Tom Servo courtesy of J. Elvis Weinstein. Even at this early point in the show's run, the wit of Joel and the Bots is sharp, but no number of well-honed barbs can make the plodding pace of the film or short overly enjoyable. I generally dislike the old serial shorts, and particularly "Commando Cody." This is worth viewing, but unless you really love early horror films, probably not more than once.

"Warrior of the Lost World" (Episode 501) is an absolute gem of an episode. This episode has everything you could want: a ridiculous post-apocalyptic sci-fi plot, great hammy acting, and truly ridiculous technology. Written and directed by David Worth, and starring Robert Ginty, Persis Khambatta, and Donald Pleasence, this film actually contains far more talent than most MST3K episodes, but that talent is hilariously squandered in this film. This is another Joel episode, and Joel and the Bots have rarely been in better form. The riffing is pointed and hilarious, and Joel dressed up as Ginty in one of the host segments is unforgettable. The plot concerns a renegade biker and his talking motorcycle. This is no ordinary talking motorcycle, it's an extremely annoying motorcycle with very high-tech detection equipment that can spot and call out the presence of "geeks" and more at a mile range or so. Ginty, who sadly passed away last year, is best known for his roles in "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "The Paper Chase," leading to him becoming known as "The 'Paper Chase' Guy" by Joel and the Bots, to great comedic effect. Persis Khambatta stars as the beautiful love interest while Donald Pleasence hams it up in one of his most hysterical bits of over-acting ever, playing the same role he always does as the crazy bad guy. The highlight of the episode is the interaction with the technological wizardry of the bike, and especially the fan favorite scene of Ginty and the bike versus "Megaweapon," which is a dump truck. This movie has to be seen to be believed and is one of my favorite MST3K episodes ever. As a special treat, the extras include an interview with David Worth about the project, and it is both entertaining and interesting.

"Santa Claus" (Episode 521) is a stupid Mexican kid's movie made by K. Gordon Murray, and features a truly bizarre re-telling of the Santa tale, ultimately boiling down to a good-versus-evil morality play. Along the way Santa (who lives in a castle in the clouds, and has some very unusual spying apparatus) confronts Pitch, the devil, who is the hammiest demon in the universe (I especially enjoyed his dancing.) We meet characters like Lupita, a girl who is poor but only wants a doll for Christmas, and her evil counterparts, three boys who plan to kidnap Santa in an unsporting manner. Without question my favorite scene has to be the opening shot where the children of the world sing and dance culturally appropriate songs (Not!) while Santa plays his organ. There is space in the extras devoted to this to very good effect, and despite my love for "Warrior of the Lost World," I think this is my enduring favorite of the set because of the juxtaposition of surrealism on a really stupid children's movie. "Weird enough for you, folks?"

"Night of the Blood Beast" with the short "Once Upon a Honeymoon"(Episode 701) was the "Turkey Day" 1995 episode, and receives lots of attention in the extras. This is one where the short was, for me, better than the movie. A guardian angel, Wilbur, comes down to preserve the honeymoon of a newly married couple, but the film turns into an exercise in writing a song ("The Wishing Song") and discussing appliances. Hear the actress sing lines like "I want a refrigerator with a door that will close and will stay closed...and a phone, a bright red phone, a kitchen phone!" The commentary from Mike and the Bots is absolutely priceless and makes this one of the highlights of the entire series, much like "Hired!"

"Night of the Blood Beast" only requires two words to fully grasp: Roger Corman. The film is about an astronaut who goes into space in an utterly ridiculous spacecraft, only to have something horrible happen to him: not only does he crash, he's impregnated by a Blood Beast, which must be seen to be believed (I especially like the animations under the microscope in the lab.) Of course the whole thing ends like every other movie in the genre does (it reminded me especially of "Zontar, The Thing From Venus,") with tragic deaths and a hope of renewal. It's a good episode, and I like it, but it will forever be overshadowed by the short.

This is a great set for lovers of cheesy movies everywhere, and I highly recommend it.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVI [Limited Edition] Overview

With the holidays upon us and the spirit of goodwill toward men in the air, let us be mindful of those less fortunate: Joel, Mike and their hapless bots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot. The only presents under the tree on the Satellite of Love are four movies anyone else would return the next day, but thanks to their steady stream of wisecracks, there are enough ho ho hos to make this the best holiday ever! So come all ye faithful and let us adore the comedy madness that is Mystery Science Theater
Films include The Corpse Vanishes, Warrior Of The Lost World, Santa Claus, Night Of The Blood Beast. The first pressing of this box set comes packaged with a limited-edition Tom Servo figurine, the perfect companion to last years out-of-print Crow T. Robot figurine.

#1 Cheap That '70s Show - Season 4 Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This season is good but there are some things that bother me. First I hate when Eric and Donna break up they belong together. I don't care much for Leo he is not that great a character. I miss Midge I wish she was still on the show. The 100th episode Eric's False Alarm is pretty good. I'm glad I still have this season because there are still some good episodes. Good season and great show.

That '70s Show - Season 4 Overview

But between trying to figure out the meaning of life, avoiding their parents, and dealing with out-of-control hormones, they’ve learned one thing for sure: they’ll always get by with a little help from their friends.

I finally wanted to complete my collection of That 70's Show dvd's so I bought seasons 4 & 5. This series is great and I would've given this product 5 stars, however I'm disappointed with the DVD packaging. I was expecting 4 dvd's per season, each of which packaged separately in it's nice slim dvd box. What I received is a one dvd box that contains all of the dvd's inside, which completely messes up the looks of my collection. So there you have it. 5 star product packaged into 3 star dvd box.

Zach Galifianakis - Live at the Purple Onion Overview

Zach Galifianakis started his so-called career in back of a hamburger joint in New York. Well-known and loved by the Comedy Central crowd, he is one of the Comedians of Comedy, played director Alan Finger in the series Dog Bites Man and wowed the critics with his acclaimed VH1 show, Late World With Zach. A master of the one-liner, rivaling Steven Wright, with an absurd rambling style reminiscent of Andy Kaufman, Zach s sharp, resonating humor makes his show at the famed Purple Onion in San Francisco one of the funniest performances in recent comedy. Off-stage, you will meet Seth Galifianakis, Zach s twin brother. In an emotional interview with Brian Unger, he sheds some light on his brother Zach, revealing how he came to be who he is today.

Bonus Features:

* The Awkward Slapping Bit (outtake)

* Zach Shaves

* Outtakes From Brian Unger s Interview With Seth Galifianakis

* Behind-the-scenes footage and outtakes

Didn't even finish watching it - M. Marandola - NJ
I have a very broad taste in movies and comedy. There are very few movies or stand up comedy specials that I won't like. The fact that I couldn't even finish the DVD should tell you what I thought about it. He cracked a few jokes in the beginning which got my hopes up but over the 40 minutes that I could bare to watch they ended up being the only 2 jokes that I laughed at. For the majority of the time he is just talking to the crowd and not being very funny about it in my opinion. The rest of the time, they show pre-recorded skits where he is pretending to be his twin brother or with his group of friends and I felt that both of those were pointless and even more dull than his stand-up portion. I found him to be very disappointing and boring. Overall I can say that I wasted my money on this DVD.

#1 Cheap Boogie Nights (New Line Platinum Series) Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

BOOGIE NIGHTS is a great movie by all accounts -- great directing, acting, story, screenplay, photography, music...etc. PTA is probably the best director out there as of now. BOOGIE NIGHTS is an American Dramatic Epic about the 70's Porn scene in Southern CA. I own the DVD of the film but the BLU RAY experience was even better. The DOLBY TRUE HD audio pops with power and detail and makes me appreciate the sound mix even more; I should say that there is a little hiss and crackle in third act of the film in the audio track which I kinda liked but it may bother some people. Perhaps the original mix was created as an analog master (rare but doable) and hence retains superior fidelity but a few analog crackles in the DOLBY TRUE HD BLU RAY mix.

The BLU RAY picture quality is a dramatic jump above the DVD and Itunes HD which looks soft, compressed, and washed out in comparison. It looks like the BLU RAY used a TELECINE transfer from the 35MM which makes sense because PTA color corrected this film the classic analog chemical way instead of doing a Digital Intermediate. Color and resolution is full and they even preserved the stylish film grain which many BLU RAYS try and remove. I love that the grain was maintained in the image as it actually adds to the perceived texture of the picture and is closer to what the director PTA intended.

Director's commentary on this BLU RAY is one of the best out there and I wish PTA would do the same with THERE WILL BE BLOOD and MAGNOLIA.

BOOGIE NIGHTS BLU RAY -- a must have for any cinema lover.

Boogie Nights (New Line Platinum Series) Overview

From Hollywood's hottest new director comes the outrageous epic that throws the covers back on California's adult entertainment industry in the swinging seventies. It's a touching and often humorous portrait of a most unusual family of filmakers, brought

Totally weird, and entertaining at the same time! - H. Pursley -
Mark Wahlberg as Dirk Diggler the '70's porn star. Starts out as a kid from the Valley with a "talent" and gets discovered by the super creepy Burt Reynolds. Shows Dirk's rise to fame and his coke habit, and then theres the infamous "money shot" at the end. A bit odd but completely engrossing and entertaining.

#1 Cheap Burn Notice: Season Three Reviews

Oh so fun! So well written and acted. Well edited when so many aren't these days or drop the ball on. Have to disagree with the other reviewer who places The Closer as second to this however. I mean how can you choose. I love them both for the same reasons and love them both for different reasons. But bottom line these are two TV series that are worth watching and buying the DVD seasons to re-watch now and again. They hold up even as rerun's. They have taken a lot of care to build up fun relationships and bring characters personalities to play here. And the double plots within the show every week is just like getting two for the hour. Oh did I mention this series gives you your bucks worth in minutes. (Not so WEEDS which if it gets any shorter the lead in will be longer than the weeks show. Really what is going on with that...oh who cares. Husband said drop WEEDS this year.) Sticking with Burn Notice and The Closer. Please don't anyone mess with this series for another 5 or more years...please:)))Actors you could grow old with your fans....you've got a winner. Maybe a Mash run....could be !!! A modern day Robinhood....why not!

Annoying - D. J. Nardi - Washington, DC
Maybe this show appeals to some people, but to me the characters seem like a bunch of annoying, whiny retards. I can't stand the voices of the main actors - two of them shriek rather than talk. Rather than provide comedy that everybody can enjoy, Will & Grace revolves around cliches and gay sex jokes. Debra Messing is the only salvation in the show, but she's not enough to save bad comedy.

my 3 yr old loves the kipper episodes. we have been through a whole bunch of series and sets of favorite characters and kipper has held up to dora and barney and the einstein videos. the skits in each video/dvd are along the lines of things kids his age would think of and do, so he totally relates to these shows. this is another great one in the series that are out so far

Kipper is awesome ;) - L. Farmer -
We lost this particular DVD and I had to order it again. We have a lot of the Kipper DVDs and the kids love them. They're nice and soothing. Actually, of all the DVDs we have, Kipper is probably one of the few you could let the kids relax to before bed. Kipper, along with the Berenstein Bears and a few Veggie Tales is basically my childrens' favorite cartoons.

#1 Cheap Elizabethtown (Widescreen Edition) Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

I should say that moving is what best describes the film. Ok, it may seem chaotic sometimes and it is for sure a series of different scenes, not a mastermind plot, but life is about the flow of very different and contradictory moments, happy and sad, not about a brilliant scheme, at least as far as human beings' lives are concerned.
What I loved about this film:
a) The deep humanity in all the characters
b) The mutual affection and tenderness between Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst that eventually develop into love
c) The beautiful road trip which culminates in the final embracing scene
d) The impressive soundtrack
e) The curious paradox that a dramatic fact can turn out to be a person's salvation, that is, the turning point to provide happiness. Or else, that from bad moments may come good ones. All of them unexpected. If Drew hadn't suffered that professional failure and his father hadn't died he wouldn't have met Claire and wouldn't have known real love at all. So, paradoxically, his career downfall and his father's decease led him eventually to happiness. One never knows what life has in store for each of us.
What I didn't like or felt a bit odd or else didn't undertand in the film:
a) How can a company lose almost one billion dollars just because of a pair of sport shoes?
b) Susan Sarandon's character as Drew's mother is rather preposterous
c) Drew's suicide idea is too soon, too immediate to be credible.
Apart from that, the film is so sweet that you'll feel really moved if you let yourself go wrapped by its scent.
Oh, yeah, and who risks wins, that's not controversial

Elizabethtown (Widescreen Edition) Overview

From Oscar winner Cameron Crowe comes "a potent blend of rock 'n' roll and classic romantic comedy." Orlando Bloom stars as Drew Baylor, a hot-shot designer whose life becomes completely unraveled when he loses his father and his job on one fateful day. En route to Elizabethtown to visit his family, Drew meets Claire (Kirsten Dunst). She's beautiful, unstoppably positive, and just the gal to guide Drew on his journey back home and to teach him what it means to live and love along the way. Set against the backdrop of an incredible soundtrack, ELIZABETHTOWN is "an amazing trip of love, loss and laughter."

Two or Three Movies in One. Not the sum of it's parts.... - J. A. Boodey - Barrington, NH
I wish Amazon.com could allow half stars reviews. I didn't hate it and it's not ok....inbetween. It's a definite Cameron Crowe written and directed movie, which I love. I wish I could put my finger on it. Great stories, great music, great direction, great dialogue. It just didn't work for me. To paraphrase this movie and Almost Famous, it's a story that a lot of fantastic little moments. If you're on the fence on buying this movie, can't recommend it. Go for Almost Famous if you haven't. It's too bad this movie followed Garden State. (I wonder, seen on the track listing of one of the road trip cd's in this movie is "The Shins." Could Cameron and Zac have the same great taste, I would believe so, I need wonderous finds in this world.)

Spoiler: There is one scene that floors me every time, I get goosebumps watching the in-movie band, "Ruckus" perform Freebird and jammin' under the sprinklers captured in the music . I love that scene and it must have been a hoot to shoot/witness. If you're not a fan of My Morning Jacket, what's wrong wit you?

So 2-1/2 stars out of 5. This movie is kinda like The Clash's "Cut The Crap." Non-essential, but a collection completer and it captures the essence of CC, just not the brilliance.

#1 Cheap My Father the Hero Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

OK, this is a 1994 Hollywood remake, following the 1991 French original very closely with the same father, Gerard Depardieu, though with all different people otherwise, and you can say the original is more tender, more natural, more moving, the relationship between the father and the teenage daughter is more caring and sympathetic, the daughter more likable and lovable: I only knew it existed because a film club chose the French version when it was new, but this version is still well-worth having in your library - it's lots of fun, and deserves to be much better known!

I guess there are people who, not knowing French, don't want the experience of hearing a language they don't understand while they read sub-titles, and I guess this version was made for them: but even if you're comfortable with French it's very interesting to compare the two ...

As a detail, I personally find it embarrassing over-kill that the Hollywood version adds a scene where the father sings 'Thank heaven for little girls' - it's out of character that, with the degree of sensitivity he's otherwise portrayed, he would have missed the likelihood of its being considered in bad taste ... but maybe that's because I always found the song in bad taste anyway!

My Father the Hero Overview

Gerard Depardieu (GREEN CARD) stars as an overprotective father who lands in hot water when his overactive teenage daughter gets in over her head at a tropical vacation resort! Soon, the mischievous teen is getting dad in big, big trouble -- hurling him into one madcap misadventure after another. Combining uproarious comedy and a beautiful island setting, MY FATHER,THE HERO, simply overflows with nonstop fun in the sun. Discover for yourself the comedy hit that left critics and audiences alike drowning with laughter.

#1 Cheap The Simpsons - The Eleventh Season Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Although this season isn't the best that the Simpsons have to offer, it has some great episodes. E-I-E-I-D'oh, Look Who's Come to Criticize Dinner, and Pygmolian are 3 of the best from the season. Another great feature from this set is all of the cool new artwork. The entire inside of the box is a big mural. This set also has all of the great special features that we've come to expect from Simpsons DVD's. If you're looking to buy a season of the Simpsons consider this one. Just do NOT buy season 20! It has no special features at all, no new artwork. It is just the episodes with nothing else its a rippoff.

#1 Cheap Every Which Way But Loose [Blu-ray] Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Back in the Seventies Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds had a friendly rivalry as box office champions. They shared a "Time" cover story in early 1978 and later teamed up for the misbegotten "City Heat". Clint at the time was trying to soften his image and Burt wanted to be taken more seriously as an actor. Clint chose this vehicle to show off his comic chops. At the time of the flick's release it was savaged by the critics for it's alleged low-brow humor. Check out Leonard Maltin's movie guide and see it was given the dreaded BOMB rating. That didn't stop it from being one of the highest grossing films of 1978. Looking at it some thirty years later it holds up remarkably well. Clint seems to be enjoying himself particularly in his interaction with Clyde the Orangutan. The film is a classic in kind of a loopy way. Think of it as "Bringing Up Baby" with a redneck sensibility. Kick off your boots have a few brews and enjoy the show.

Every Which Way But Loose [Blu-ray] Overview

Bluray Disc

Every Which Way But Loose - Jose Lopez - Miami,Florida USA
Before there was a Fight Club(A movie I don't care for.) You had Clint Eastwood beating them with his bare knuckles in fights, Although he isn't a trucker as described by the film(unless driving a pickup your a trucker). the movie is funny, yet slow-paced and long.Decent Film but obviously no Dirty Harry. 4 stars Cause eastwood' is in it.
