#1 Cheap Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!: Season Three Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

I have been watching 'Tim and Eric' for over a year now and the only thing that can compare to it is Tommy Wiseau's 'the room', a masterpiece of surreal comedy that was unintentional (making it even more remarkable). It is impossible to explain what is funny about an elderly Indian man on a carpet grabbing his stomach and yelling 'great job' while the infinitely talented Doug Lussenhop manipulates his action and turns it into a song of sorts. The music is fantastic and will stick in your mind for days on end and if you watch the show and do not find yourself screaming 'shrimp' at the top of your voice at the mere mention of 'white wine' then you may want your life signs confirmed. As mentioned, the only thing that can compare to such inane humor is 'the room', but Tim and Eric understand this completely and have headhunted him to direct an episode for season four, simply entitled 'Tommy'. For those who live in America and are baffled by the bizarre and highly inaccurate comparisons to the overrated and one-dimensional 'The Mighty Boosh', I can only humbly suggest that they check out an English genius by the name of Chris Morris, particularly 'Brass Eye' and 'Jam'. It is almost in the league of 'The Room' for surreal comedy, but let's face it, the best produce comes from the truly deranged.

TIM & ERIC AWESOME SHOW GREAT JOB-SEASON 3 (DVD)

Best Comedy on Television. - George W. Counce III - Knoxville, Tennessee USA
Tim and Eric are must see television. I really like to watch on DVD because I can become submerged into their insane world for more than 15 minutes, which is the length of their show. Comedy at a rapid fire pace. This one is brilliant.

#1 Cheap The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: The Complete Fifth Season Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air Season 5 is the continuation of the always funny and often heart wamring tales of Will Smith playing a character of the same name. Season 5 leaves off where season 4 ended. When we last saw Will, he had returned to Philadelphia with his California Aunt and Uncle and cousins in tow. After attending a Phillies game and reenacting scene's from Rocky will finally confronts the very bully that sent him packing for cali in the first place. The first episode of season 5 leaves off with Will's dilemma of now that he has finally erased the unfair label of him being a chicken in philly, should he stay or should he go back to California. Other memorable episodes in Season 5, and there are many is Aunt Vivian and Uncle Phil's appearance on Soul Train, to commemorate their anniversary. Will Smith also shows his acting chops and shows his dramatic acting abilities in the episode where Will takes a bullet for Carlton. An image that still evokes emotion is the final scene of the episode where Will lays in a hospital bed and begins to cry after he convinces Carlton to hand over the gun he purchased to protect himself and his cousin Will. Season 5 introduces Will's new and through the rest of the season love interest Lisa played by Nia Long. Which results in even more hillarity. Especially Will's interaction with her father played by John Amos. ( Good Times)Ironically a little know fact is Jada Pinkett Smith was originally cast to play Lisa, but producers deemed her too short to play a love interest to Will who is 6'3 and chose Long instead.

If your a fan of the series, Season 5 is definetly a must have to add to your collection. The great thing about Fresh Prince is there isnt a weak season in the series and the show doesnt loose steam through it's 6 year run. As always Will's one liner jabs at his Uncle Phil are plentiful and the consistant comedic timing and chemistry of the odd couple cousin's of Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro characters is worth the price of the dvd alone. I highly reccomend this dvd to anyone who is a fan of Will Smith and who loves any of the other previous season's of The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. My two year old daughter even loves to watch The Fresh Prince and always sits to watch it when I pop in a dvd of the show or we catch it on tv. And that's saying something because she doesnt sit through many tv-shows and isnt captivated by them unless it's Elmo or Nickelodeon cartoons.
You can really see the cast enjoyed working together and had fun. Especially when they would show bloopers at the end of the episodes. Maybe then it's no wonder why anyone who has watched Fresh Prince can easily imagine The Banks as a real family.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: The Complete Fifth Season Overview

This season, Will (Will Smith) finds himself in all sorts of hysterical predicaments. He manages to land a part in a daytime soap. He’s put into a trance by a stage hypnotist, who gets him to behave like a four-year-old and even takes a bullet for Carlton. But a life-changing event awaits Will when he meets Lisa (Nia Long). Before we know it, he’s in love, engaged and standing before the minister. Will they go through with the wedding? As for the others in the Banks household, Ashley (Tatyana M. Ali) finds herself abandoning her private school education in exchange for public school. Hillary (Karyn Parsons) prepares to leave the nest. Vivian (Daphne Maxwell Reid) reminisces about Philip’s (James Avery) marriage proposal when they appeared on Soul Train 25 years earlier.

March of the wooden soldiers has been a Christmas season favorite since my children were toddlers. I have always been a fan of Laurel and Hardy. I was delighted to find that it had been released to DVD and that I could purchase it. I like the black and white version best, although the colorization isn't bad. I liked that both versions were included. It is a simple story of good vs bad and my grandchildren were amply entertained while learning a lesson.

For years the family has watched the movie in black and white during Thanksgiving holiday. Now my grandchildren want to see it every time they visit me. The color version is absolutely beautiful. It is redone in color and also comes in black and white.

We purchased this a month ago and than bought 2 more to give as gifts. The kids watch it over and over and wanted to give it as a birthday gift to friends.

COUPLES RETREAT is nothing more than a SLEEPING PILL! - N. Savage - Scranton, PA
Sadly, I bought this movie because I ASSUMED that Couple's Retreat would be FUNNY. Oh boy was that a bad assumption. Lesson learned later! :( Just because VINCE VAUGHN was funny in Wedding Crashers doesn't mean COUPLES RETREAT is funny, too!

If you walk away with anything from my review then I hope that you take this advice.....ALWAYS read other people's reviews before watching, or worse yet, buying a DVD because more often than not, other people's reviews are pretty much spot on!

My advice: SAVE your money...COUPLES RETREAT is nothing more than a SLEEPING PILL!

I have enjoyed Season 1 because there are several episodes that I have never seen and you can get a first look at several characters than changed over the years, most particularly Gonzo. #1 Cheap Bye Bye Birdie Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Having viewed the opening title song for this remake on YOU TUBE, I finally purchased it and have to sing its praises. I recently rewatched the original with Dick Van Dyke and while I liked him, that original rang falsely and its acting was quite stiff and unconvincing. Everyone in this remake brings a fresher, more realistic performance to its story, without overdoing things to the point of corniness, which the original did. (Dick Van Dyke's Put on a Happy Face had "happy faces" in it! In this version, Jason Alexander cheers up a glum teenage girl singing that song at the train station in a natural song and dance sequence.) Neither the Kim nor Conrad nor the teens or the adults come off like caricatures; they're all portrayed with a fresh enthusiasm that is catching. Vanessa Williams does justice to the Rosie role and the direction lets the musical's plot flow easily from beginning to end. For someone who lived through Beatlemania (born a bit too late for Elvis), this is the version that shows what it's like to be young and in love with life when your idol comes to town.

#1 Cheap Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

A friend introduced me to the first Eating Out film a few years ago and I embraced it, although not as much as he did. I liked the film, but it wasn't up to par even by independent-gay-comedy standards. I enjoyed it enough, but when I saw that there was a sequel available I was pretty sure it was just cashing in on the first film's success and would be even worse. By my calculations, this would should have been a terrible film.

I won't go into total detail with the plot, although it is as crazy as the first film. Kyle and Marc are breaking up. New guy Troy (a nude model for Kyle's art class) isn't sure what orientation he is. Returning from the first film, Tiffani and Gwen convince Kyle he should pretend to be an ex-gay to get Marc in the sack. He goes along with the plot, no matter how unsure, and hilarity ensues. What is better here, though, is the filmmakers have a better hold on what is happening on-screen.

I was completely surprised that almost immediately I started cracking up. This is the Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, or Godfather 2 of gay comedies. The script is better, the acting is more confident and assured (although you can tell Marco Dapper as Troy is a newcomer), and the direction moves the story along so well that I was never thinking it should have been more or less. The replacement of Ryan Carnes (no matter how hot he is) as Marc is a smart one. The new Marc, played by Brett Chukerman, is better even though I resisted it at first. Over the course of the movie his charm came through. Honestly, the sequel could be a stand alone film as you don't necessarily need to know the happenings of the first film to get into this one, but it does help.

It may not have been a blockbuster, or the best next hit indie film, or the even the next big gay film. But those of us who seek out smart and hilarious entertainment for our homo film collections should pick this one up, no matter your feelings about the original. I loved it from start to finish. It made the first film seem like our own first time: Uncomfortable, embarassing, and unsure. The second time around we know what we're doing. The film is no different.

Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds Overview

How far would you go to get the person of your dreams? In the first Eating Out, Kyle (Jim Verraros) convinced his straight roommate to pretend to be gay in order to get the girl. Now, with the help of Gwen (Emily Brooke Hands) and Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan), Kyle pretends to be heterosexual in order to land Troy (Marco Dapper), the new guy (and nude model) who's turning the heads of both men and women. He soon finds himself joining the campus ex-gay support group and nabbing a girlfriend (Tiffany)! Kyle's ex-boyfriend Marc (Brett Chukerman) is horrified at the plan and decides to pursue the confused Troy with his own tactic -- being his "out" gay self. Who will win Troy first? In the boy eat boy, boy eat girl, bisexual mystique of Eating Out 2, the stakes are raised, sexual boundaries are obliterated, and the answer is never what you might expect!

Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds - A. Stallings - Louisiana
I watched the movie because I am a fan of the model turned actor Marco Dapper. I enjoyed this film I thought it was funny, upbeat and witty with great dialogue.

#1 Cheap Alice's Restaurant Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Alice's Restaurant is based on the song of the same name by Arlo Guthrie; and although it's not the best movie I've ever seen it's far from being the worst. The plot moves along fairly well; they could have edited the first hour a little bit more to make the action tighter; the second part moves along at a much better pace. Some of the actors did a great job; other actors were not so convincing. However, the cinematography and the choreography are very strong; and the movie overall is entertaining.

When the action starts, we meet young Arlo Guthrie who's bouncing around having some adventures. He goes to college but he finds it's not for him; and he has a brush with the law after he gets thrown through a window for the crime of having long hair! Worse yet, his father Woody Guthrie (played by Joseph Boley) is dying of a rare neurological disorder in a New York hospital. Arlo splits his time between visiting friends Alice and Ray (Patricia Quinn and James Broderick) who buy a church in Massachusetts and New York where he visits his father in the hospital.

Ray and Alice get some people to help renovate the church into a home with a restaurant in back (thus we have Alice's Restaurant) and the church takes on a beautiful transformation. Unfortunately, a love triangle complicates things between Alice, Ray and a young man named Shelly (Michael McClanathan).

Shortly before Thanksgiving time, a few key events happen. First, Ray and Alice reconcile after a brief breakup--and Ray surprises Alice when he tells her he's invited "a few" other people for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving turns into a banquet for tons of people although a good time is had by all; and Arlo and his friend Roger (Geoff Outlaw) innocently dump the garbage at the bottom of a ravine where a lot of garbage already lies--after all, what can you do when you need to dump a ton of garbage and the town dump is closed for Thanksgiving? This creates an unexpected problem for Arlo and Roger; they are arrested by Officer "Obie" (William Obanhein) and the local police have a field day using all their equipment to document the biggest "crime" to hit Stockbridge in nearly 50 years. After Alice gets them out of jail, they must pay a fine and pick up the garbage.

And then Arlo gets his draft notice--he must report to a military screening post on Whitehall Street in New York for a physical and more. When they find out that he was arrested for littering and that he thinks little of it, their reaction is remarkable!

Of course, there's already plenty more that I've left out (believe it or not) and there are questions that remain. Ray and Alice struggle to make their relationship work--will they stay together? Will Arlo be inducted into the military? What about the girl that Arlo likes--her name is Mari-chan (Tina Chen). Will she return Arlo's affection? What about Officer Obie--what happens at Arlo and Roger's trial that could derail his "prosecution" case against Arlo and Roger for littering? Watch and find out!

We do indeed get a commentary by Arlo; and that's grand. There's also a marvelous cameo by the great Pete Seeger who plays and sings along with Arlo in Woody's hospital room.

Alice's Restaurant isn't as well edited as I hoped it would be; the story line has unnecessary complications. Nevertheless, it does explore the issues of life, death, hope, loss, love and more. I recommend this film for people interested in these meaningful issues; and people who want a nostalgic look back at the 1960's would do well to get this DVD.

Alice's Restaurant Overview

"It is hard to imagine a more beautiful movie" (Time) than this critically acclaimed chronicle of hippie life during the late 1960s, which garnered the acclaimed director of Bonnie and Clyde his second Oscar(r) nomination*. Based on the song by folk music troubadour Arlo Guthrie, son of legendary "Dust Bowl" balladeer Woody Guthrie, this tribute film to "the lost generation" features memorable scenes with other folk artists like Pete Seeger, who join Arlo in song to make a profound statement about war, protest and change. In the late '60s, a changing social and political climate inspired a new generation to create a lifestyle outside of the mainstream. Twenty-two year-old Arlo's journey to find a place for himself and his music includes a visit to his dying father in the hospital, gigs in New York and romps with his friends Alice and Ray, who run a small restaurant in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. And when an incident at Alice's Restaurant plays a pivotal role inArlo's avoidance of the draft, it sends him down a road that he will consider a small price to pay to keep his freedom and his beliefs. *Arthur Penn: Director; Alice's Restaurant (1969); Bonnie and Clyde (1967)

Lots of fun - Robert M. Brideson -
This is a great look into the crazy world of the late 60's and the life and times of Alro Guthrie. A must have if you enjoy the song.

#1 Cheap Numb Reviews

NUMB

I have been a fan of Matthew Perry since I had first seen the show Friends years ago, I have always been a fan of that Chandler/David Spade type A-Hole humor. So I have followed him since the show has ended, I mean come on he did a movie with the great Bruce Campbell. I have bought almost all the films he has been in, and I will eventually buy them all. This is one of his newer films and I have to say hat it could be one of his best performances ever, and very dramatic role that some may not have expected of him.

Hudson Milbank [Perry] has Depersonalization Disorder and he really believes that he is going crazy, if fact things don't feel or seem real to him. So he sets out on a course to find out how he can fix this problem that he believes was caused by smoking weed. In the midst of going to psychiatrist after psychiatrist he meets a girl that can actually make him feel real. Of course all his doctors are as crazy as him, in fact one is infatuated with him, and she is all over him. The man has to take a long personal journey that may or may not fix him, in fact that is what I like most about this film. By the end of it he is getting better but he is not quite fixed, I love when films end like that. Don't get me wrong this is not a fully drama type film, there is a lot of dark humor through out the film.

Matthew Perry who also served as an Executive Producer did a great job with his role, he plays the role very held back and dry and that is just what the character needed. He played the role exactly like the director wanted from what I gather from special features, he did a great job. Kevin Pollak as usual does a great job as Perry's best friend and writing partner, he delivers a wonderful performance. Lynn Collins does a great job as the girl Perry's character is in love with, she is just as crazy as Hudson. But I have to say that my favorite from the supporting roles was Mary Steenburgen as the crazy doctor that he goes to see is great. She played the role so well that I actually believed her in that role, she flipped so quick it was great.

Writer/director Harris Goldberg did an excellent job that from listening to the commentary he wrote the entire thing based off his life. He had this disorder and the same problems with his new found girl and doctors, and you can tell he put his heart into this. He is the guy that wrote both Deuce Bigalow films and With Out a Paddle so I can tell that this was his baby as far as all his films go. I think that this is a really good movie that warrants a purchase in my mind, everybody involved did a great job.

If you are wanting to see a really good some what weird but some what funny movie this is the one for you. This is a great dramatic turn for Perry and I hope that he continues to switch between dramatic and comedy roles like this.

A Delightful Surprise! - Richard Keith - Lakewood, Ohio United States
I happened on this movie while channel surfing and was taken aback at seeing M. Perry playing what appeared to be a clueless person. I realized as the movie progressed that he was playing the part of someone with depersonalization disorder. He did a great job of pulling that off, played it just right. Mary Steenburgen was great in her supporting role.

My one gripe about the movie is its mysterious ending. The MP character gets picked up in a car but we don't see who is driving. And there's a "happily ever after" tone to the end as they drive off. Who was that? Sara? Give me a clue.

The addition of Candace Bergen makes this season even better than the first! This is easily her best role ever, and the Denny Crain/Alan Shore duo gets more and more funny with each episode. This is one of the funniest series ever to be on television. I would advise that you buy all of the seasons together, because you will be kicking yourself when you have to wait a week after watching season 1 for season 2 to come to you in the mail. You will love this season!

This review is from: Boston Legal: Season Four (DVD)
I love Denny and Alan. this is a great show that hit on real life issues as well as funny and serious. I love how one is a republican and the other is a democrat and they argue about real things from gun rights to woman rights, but at the end of the day, they always come together as best friends should and have a drink and a smoke.

An excerpt from my blog: "None of this is new. Mothers everywhere struggle to find a balance between family and (fill in the blank). Which is exactly why this film is a radical act of (s)heroism. How has this not been brought forth so gorgeously and poignantly before? ...I cried, I laughed, I surrendered to my personal truths and my perceptions, I got pissed off and then I loved. I loved the film. I loved everyone in that room who was watching it with me nodding their heads in agreement, laughing, knowing and drying their own tears. I loved every woman and mother since the beginning of time who has ever had to put her "selfish" needs aside to raise a family or, hell, raise HERSELF in this backwards society. I loved every good man who has supported his wife, partner, daughter in her passions with love and selflessness (and I was/am very grateful for such a man in my life). Most of all, I loved the producers of this film for having the vision to bring it to life, to us. What a wonderful service they have done. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU."

Who Does She Think She Is? House Party Kit Overview

WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?, a riveting documentary by Academy Award-winning producer Pamela Tanner Boll (Born Into Brothels), features five bold women who navigate some of the most problematic intersections of our time: parenting and creativity, partnering and independence, economics and art. Through their lives Tanner Boll explores what it means to nurture children and family, and keep the creative fire burning within. The film considers an era when women were revered as cultural muses, and the modern era when most people are unable to name a handful of female artists. Tanner Boll s energetic camera documents actual work, giving us a feel for the creative process. In interviews with the artists, and in some cases, their families, Boll raises important questions about how art is valued in our culture. Can women follow their artistic instincts and still function as wives and mothers? Pamela Tanner Boll s articulate documentary answers that question with a qualified Yes. V.A. MUSETTO, The New York Post Includes interviews with experts; Riane Eisler (The Chalice and the Blade), The Guerrilla Girls, Maura Reilly (Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Brooklyn Museum) and Leonard Shlain (The Alphabet vs. The Goddess). Included in the kit: * Special Edition Gift Box * DVD with special features including extra scenes and the trailer * Limited Edition Movie Poster * 10 invitation postcards * 20 discussion starter cards * Companion Guide with questions for discussion * Host a Party instructions

Well Done. - S. Gibbs -
As I expected from the information I saw on the web site. Would be grateful to see a version 2 of the movie - following a group of women that were inspired by this movie.

Great show, very good transfer and I can't wait to get the remaining seasons when (and if) they are released.

Sadly it misses a star for the bad packaging and presentation. Instead of individual mounts or cases for the discs, we get all three in one case and on one mount. So to get to the last disc you have to take the first two out...this is horrible and increases the chances of the discs getting damaged. Also, there is no booklet listing the episodes or their titles. Very poor!

If a job's worth doing...do it right. Next time, I hope the manufacturers will go back to the designs for either the first or second seasons, those were much better.

Barney Miller: The Complete Third Season Overview

The men of the 12th Precinct are back for another season of big laughs and bad coffee! Fires, blackouts, smog ? elections. The third season gives a wild look at New York City during one of its most dynamic times, the late '70s, an era before the term "politically correct" existed. Join Hal Linden as wise police Captain Barney Miller along with Officers Fish (Abe Vigoda), Wojo (Max Gail), Harris (Ron Glass), Yemana (Jack Soo) and guest stars Dietrich (Steve Landesberg), Officer Levitt (Ron Carey) and Inspector Luger (James Gregory) in this hilarious Emmy®-winning comedy. With a station of wacky misfits and wild New Yorkers, the third season is full of guest stars including Billy Barty (UHF), James Cromwell (TV's 24), Doris Roberts (TV's Everybody Loves Raymond), Brett Somers (TV's Match Game), and Michael Tucci (Grease). So funny it's criminal, Barney Miller: The Complete Third Season is a must-have for any DVD collection!

Great Show, Cheap Packaging - George G. Whitehead -
This one of my all-time three favorite shows (WKRP and Newhart being the other two). You don't need special effects when you have good writing and acting. It's a shame they don't make TV like this any more.

As said in previous comments, the packaging is about the worst I've ever had. Three discs on a single post. The designer must have been having a retro moment thinking about an old record player. Too bad. Kept a 4-star rating from being a 5-star rating.

#1 Cheap Out in the Silence Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

"Out in the Silence"

Oil City, Pennsylvania

Amos Lassen

Occasionally I will see a film that is a total experience and that moves me completely. "Out in the Silence" is such a film. When Joe Wilson married his lover, Dean Hamer, they put a wedding announcement in Joe's hometown newspaper. Joe had been raised in Oil City, Pennsylvania, a small town that he had left long. When he received a letter from a resident of his hometown, a mother of a gay ten who was being mentally tortured, he decided to go back home and document what he found. The result is this beautiful film, a look at love, hate and understanding in small-town America.
Oil City is a town that had once had industry, a town that the rest of the world has passed by. It was a peaceful, quiet place until Joe Wilson put his wedding announcement in the local paper. Kathy Springer (among many others) saw it and wrote to Joe about how her son CJ was being treated at school simply because he was gay. School authorities looked the other way and Susan having nowhere to turn asked Joe for help. The two soon became fast friends and with Joe's help, things began to change.
Diane Gramley, the head of the local American Family Association, a very conservative pressure group also saw the announcement but she saw it as an omen that the "homosexual agenda" was coming to town. She used the announcement as an opportunity to get the people of Oil City to say no to same-sex marriage and to homosexuality in general.
Joe Wilson then once again becomes part of his hometown as he looks at the cost of being different in small-town America. He meets a lesbian couple and he helps them renovate an old theater that could change the economy of the town and he becomes friendly with an evangelical pastor and we see how understanding happens. The pastor's wife so says that we are afraid of what we do not know, something I have always felt and with knowledge comes understanding and in many cases, acceptance.
An interesting aspect of the film to me especially was the use of the American Family Association's totally erroneous film, "They're Coming to Your Town" as an example of what gay people can do to a town. It is all harmful and so untrue.
Joe Wilson used his camera in a unique way and this is not just a documentary. The film troubles the viewer as well as comforts him. This is a fascinating and moving look at what it is like to be gay in America and it is to be embraced and applauded. Quite simply, it is beautiful.

Out in the Silence Overview

Following the story of a small American town confronting a firestorm of controversy ignited by a same-sex wedding announcement in the local newspaper, this gripping documentary illustrates the challenges of being an outsider in a conservative rural community and the change that is possible when courageous people break the silence and search for common ground. Out in the Silence will challenge you to rethink your values and help close the gaps that divide our communities.

Get the hell out of there!! - Mike Van Leynseele -
Call me old fashioned, but this movie reminded me of an old adage about beating a rug. "The stubborn stains remain in the middle." No matter how hard you beat it, there still seems to be that nasty stain in the middle, in this instance its the middle of our country, the Heartland, the great (?) Midwest, where minds are small and bigots are big.

Perhaps it is because I live on the West Coast, but I found this film to be difficult to follow and irrelevant. Never have I seen a gay and Lesbian themed film with so many unattractive, useless and ineffectual individuals. People! Pack up your bags and get the hell out of there!! Do not waste your money or time on this useless endeavor.

My wife and I have been a big fan of the Muppets for a long time. We watched them as kids and own several of the movies. We now find them to be a great thing to watch with our girls (all under age 5) because we can enjoy the adult complexity humour while they laugh at all of the kid stuff. I have enjoyed Season 1 because there are several episodes that I have never seen and you can get a first look at several characters than changed over the years, most particularly Gonzo. #1 Cheap Entourage: The Complete Fourth Season Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

One of the things that surprised me when I first started watching ENTOURAGE was that you saw nothing of Vince's professional life. He shot movies but the show would end as he left to shoot something and then pick back up again when he returned. I thought that was a interesting choice and the show still worked.

But as each season appears, we're getting more and more involved in the process of making movies and it's really paying off for the series.

We're not only seeing them "film" Vince's projects now, we're even treated to the a "Making Of" featurette to kick off the 4th season.

Still love the show, still want to see more...still can't get enough of Ari Gold's antics and profanity-laden rants. I guess Jeremy Piven has several Emmys and you'll see why when he catch him as Agent Ari Gold. The idea of giving him Lloyd as a secretary was a gold mine in itself and their scenes, as usual, steal the show.

I don't know where they're going with this show...but I'm ready to go!

Entourage: The Complete Fourth Season Overview

Sure it would be great to have it all, but at what price? For Vince, Eric, Drama and Turtle, life in Hollywoods fast lane can be an intoxicating ride. In Season Four, in fact, Eric and Vince have taken on new roles as producers. Will their film be hailed as a critical masterpiece, or will it end up on the trash heap of broken Tinseltown dreams?

Show slows down a bit this season - K. Swanson - Austin, TX United States
4.2 stars

Didn't dig this one nearly as much as season three, mainly because there wasn't enough of Dillon and Piven, my reasons for watching the show. Vince and Eric are pleasant enough, but really not that funny. And I watch this show to laugh, so the Medellin story line gets a little old due to its semi-seriousness. I also got more than a bit tired of the Walsh character, who might be accurate as a type but really isn't very funny and grates pretty hard after a while.

Nonetheless, the writing is still strong and there are enough solid laughs to make it worth watching.

A single father, Monty is a garage mechanic who lives in a poor neighborhood and struggles to make ends meet as he raises his three young daughters on his own. But when the courts award custody of his daughters to his corrupt, drug dealing ex-wife, Monty desperately tries to win them back, enlisting the help of Julia, a beautiful and hard nosed attorney he meets during his short stint as a chauffeur. While Monty and the Ivy-League-educated Julia couldn't be less alike, an unexpected romance blossoms, and it soon begins to feel like true love. But in order for their relationship to survive, the couple must reconcile their two very different worlds, and overcome the forces that threaten to tear Monty's family apart. Such a great movie, thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was outstanding as well as the message. Nice blend of comedy, drama and a good dose of reality. Another great movie by Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls (Full Screen) Overview

Monty (Idris Elba) is a mechanic struggling to make ends meet while raising his three young daughters. When the court awards custody of his daughters to his ex-wife, Monty desperately tries to win them back with the help of Julia (Gabrielle Union), a beautiful, Ivy League-educated attorney. Monty and Julia couldn't be less alike, but a flame is ignited...touching off a firestorm of love and conflict.

Good - A. Johnson - Omaha, NE USA
Here Tyler Perry portrays a father who just wants the best for his daughters. Not my favorite Perry movie. Some of the story I feel was not as well developed as it could have been. But overall a good movie that shows Black fathers wanting to be with their children. a refreshing tale.

I luv this movie. :) I was really looking for something to get me outta a funk on one particular afternoon and this movie was playing on cable so I figured "what the heck." And misson accomplished. 17 Again is funny, its sweet, its emotional and its entertaining. Everyone in the film is great but I have to give props to Leslie Mann, Thomas Lennon and of course Zac Efron ( these two are a hoot together ). Mr.Efron continues to surprise me with his versatility and I luv that! I've watched him grow up on the small screen and big and he's wonderful and even getting better on the eyes. ;-) This movie is a joy no matter how old you are. I luv it. I now own it. And I watch it all the time.

What should have been? - Medusa - Troy, MI
This is such a fascinating and funny movie; what if we could go back in time? Would we choose differently or would we simply do it all over again?

Zac Efron, I thought, was just a pretty boy, who was lucky to be in movies, but, I misjudged the book by its cover, he is such a talented and funny actor. Watch him in "17 again" as a middle aged man who gets to relive his youth and has a chance to rewrite his destiny. A smart and hilarious movie with a great cast of actors.

#1 Cheap Not the Messiah Reviews

Not the Messiah Overview

Something completely different is all well and good, but for Monty Python fans, there are few greater joys than hearing even for the umpteenth time a rousing live rendition of the troupe's adopted theme, "The Liberty Bell" march, or singing along to a bagpipes-enhanced "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" and "The Lumberjack Song." These pleasures frame Eric Idle and John Du Prez's 2007 comic "baroque and roll" oratorio inspired by Monty Python's Life of Brian. "Chaos and Confusion" (from the opening movement of the same name) reign in the first quarter hour, but things pick up once the hapless Brian Cohen (William Ferguson) enters the picture. For the uninitiated: "He's not the chosen one / Not the hero of his race / He's just a wrong man at the wrong time in the wrong place." The oratorio's best bits are lifted from the film, particularly "What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us," "The People's Front of Judea," and "Individuals," in which Brian tries to persuade his eager would-be followers that he is not the Messiah. Some of the jokes are inspired ("Is it A.D. yet?" "About a quarter to"). Others are nudge-nudge, say-no-more groan-worthy ("She was great with child / And not too bad without"). Not the Messiah is an easy-to-Handel mad mash-up of musical styles, including gospel, Gilbert & Sullivan, doo-wop, and Bob Dylan. In their fleeting bits, fellow Pythons Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam (as well as the ever-ravishing Carol Cleveland) are given rock star welcomes. This lavish 2009 live performance at London's venerable Royal Albert Hall commemorating Python's 40th anniversary, and featuring the not-at-all-shabby BBC Symphony and Chorus, may not have the kick or star power of Spamalot, but it is funny enough, at times lovely enough, and above all, silly enough to take its rightful place at the Python Round Table. --Donald Liebenson

#1 Cheap Holiday Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

Grant and Hepburn sparkle in this "screwball comedy" which is definitely worth seeing but which does not reach the heights the same two would scale in "The Philadelphia Story." Grant is a successfgul young broker who has made his own fortune through charm and hard work but who yearns to get away and discover who he really is. On a skiing trip, he meets Julia, a fabulously wealthy heiress. The two persuade each other they are in love -- but of course it is the elder sister played by Hepburn who is Grant's real match.

Julia's family inhabit a mansion worthy of J.P Morgan. The family is headed by a tyrannical old banker. The son is a drunk. Mother is dead. One wouldn't think this movie was made in 1938. The Great Depression is nowhere mentioned; neither is the swiftly gathering storm in Europe (except in one comment made by a guest at Grant's engagement party.)

The dialogue, from a stage play, is a bit wordy and old-fashioned. oddly, the best moment in this movie comes in a piece of physical comedy when Hepburn climbs on Grant's shoulders and does a graceful dive, ending in the two of them somersaulting across the floor.

Well it all ends as it should and they sail off to France (which will soon be occupied by the Nazis). It's all harmless fun and escapism. Very good but not great.

She's Linda Seton (Katherine Hepburn), the down-to-earth younger sister of his soon-to-be-wife, and she likes Johnny just the way he is.

Definitely worth adding to your classic movie collection! - Old movie Buff - Michigan

I purchased this movie after reading the other Amazon reviews about it. I am glad I did! There are several scenes in the movie with Grant and Hepurn that are as funny and crazy as the scenes in "You can't take it with you" (with Lionel Barrymore/Jimmy Stewart) both for dialogue, as well as good drama. Worth the price!

The Fifth Season of this one-of-a kind Showtime series was a short one. Some of our favorite characters (Think Bette and Tina) are featured prominently this time around. There is a very interesting storyline involving Jenny and a newcomer named Adele. Adele is not who she seems to be and that makes for an exciting backstory. A lot of the episodes revolved around the making of Jenny's 'Lez Girls' movie. I thought too much of it at times though we got to see Jenny and Tina go after each other and eventually come back together in a sweet way at the end of the season. Late in the season we meet the serious no-nonsense Molly (Phyllis' daughter) She plays a straight girl who Shane develops a crush on. Will the famous Shane be able to warm up this icy girl? The cliffhanger was a little anticlimatic but I am looking forward to the Sixth and final season. All in all a good solid season this time around.

#1 Cheap The Robin Harris Story - We Don't Die, We Multiply Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

I can still remember the weekend in 1990 when comedy legend
Robin Harris died suddenly in his hotel room from sleep apnea,
right at the threshold of what was to be his career breakthrough
into the mainstream of comedy! (He was only 36 yrs old!)
He had just "turned it out" at a sold out show at
Chicago's Regal Theatre where he had people rolling in
the aisles with laughter and up & comers like the late
great Bernie Mack who was a friend and a few years from
his own career breakthrough, taking notes!
He had also just recently began to appear in films like
"House Party", "Do The Right Thing", "Mo Better Blues",
and HBO Specials like Robert Townsend's.
It was very sad news to hear that he'd passed away and
many people were personally shaken because Robin Harris,
like Bernie Mac, was like that crazy family member that
shows up at the family reunion and has everybody rolling
with laughter with his antics!--You took him to heart!
This documentary is very "homemade" in it's look and approach,
but you have to keep in mind that this was put together by
the people who knew him best and loved him, who may not have
had a huge budget to do this, but what you get is an insight
and unedited interviews that you would've never gotten with
a large production. I really enjoyed this DVD and everyone
who I've shown it to enjoys it as well.
The interviews with his family as well as black comedy's
elite (many of which he influenced!) are priceless!
Rest In Peace Robin Harris (1953 - 1990)

The Robin Harris Story - We Don't Die, We Multiply Overview

Robin Harris is arguably the original king of comedy, as we know it today. His delivery, style, stage presence and unabashed sense of comedy has touched every African-American comic to debut after him. Enjoy the comedic genius that was taken from us far too soon in "We Don’t Die, We Multiply – The Robin Harris Story," as Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer and other comedic greats give credit to Robin Harris for being the visionary that influenced their careers.

One of Comedy's Royal Family - R. Clarke -
This dvd shows the versatility of Robin Harris from his days as a struggling comedian right through his break through Bebe's Kids material. The range is so amazing as is the talent of this man who could take you through life in the ghetto to problems we face in everyday life and relationships with such razor blade sharpness that you have to sit up and notice. Comedy in the millenium has benefitted from persons such as Robin and all should never forget this. Grab this product for a comprehensive view of a legend. If you want the whole HBO special don't look for it here. You'll get a lot but not all. What would have been the cream on top of the pie would be showing snippets from all of his movies, to show the versatility.

#1 Cheap One Piece: Season Two, Fifth Voyage Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

The first part of the Alabasta arc contained in Season 2, Fourth Voyage (technically this is about Season 4 of the original anime series) was mostly filler but nevertheless covered some exciting adventures as Luffy and Co. trudged through the desert to the rebel base in Yuba where they hoped to meet with Vivi's friend Kohza and stop his planned attack on the capital Alubarna and on Vivi's father King Cobra. Luffy's brother Ace, who had travelled some distance with the group, has now parted ways with them to continue his search for Blackbeard, but he vows to meet Luffy again at the Pirate Summit (something that is happening just now in the manga series in Japan). Upon reaching Yuba, they find the town abandoned except for Kohza's father, who is stubbornly digging for water. The rebel base, apparently, is now in Katorea, a town much closer to where the journey started in Nanohana. DOH!!
All of this is pleasing to Baroque Works leader, Crocodile, who is using the distraction of the civil war to facilitate his takeover of Alabasta. Meanwhile, Luffy and Co. converge upon Crocodile's position in his casino at Rainbase. The Marine division led by Smoker and Tashigi arrive here at about the same time as the Straw Hat Pirates and eagerly pursue them. But this development plays into Crocodile's plans as well, as the Straw Hats take refuge in the casino and fall into his trap along with Smoker. Sanji, Chopper, and Vivi help the rest of the group to escape, but the most crucial role is played by a former enemy once believed to be dead!
Once free, the Straw Hats find a much faster way to Alubarna. Crocodile tries to kidnap Vivi, but Luffy thwarts the effort and enthusiastically squares off against Crocodile. Unfortunately, Luffy learns the hard way that Crocodile is in an entirely different league than any of the opponents he's fought before. Being made of sand and with an endless supply of sand to manipulate, Crocodile proves unstoppable and leaves Luffy to die. Thanks to an unexpected rescue by Ms. All Sunday, Luffy lives on, but he needs some time to recover.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew races on to Alubarna, where they find Crocodile's Officer Agents waiting for them. They then separate to fight the Agents in a thrilling series of one-on-one battles! Usopp and Chopper take on the tag team of Mr. 4 and Ms. Merry Christmas in a bizarre fight combining elements of baseball and Whack-a-Mole (in this game, the mole can attack you too). Sanji takes on the playfully sadistic transvestite Mr. 2, who besides being a ballet dancer and face copier has kenpo fighting skills that rival Sanji's. Mr. 2 is also aware of Sanji's weakness for Nami and exploits this weakness fully. Nami, at long last, gets her first solo fight against Ms. Doublefinger, a dominatrix who can turn her whole body into deadly spikes. Luckily, Nami has a new weapon invented by Usopp called the Clima Tact that can create a variety of weather effects (including lightning). Unluckily, Nami hasn't quite mastered the use of this weapon, and her life is on the line as this volume ends.

Next: Zoro vs. Mr. 1, Luffy's arrival, what Crocodile really wants in Alabasta, the end of the war, and a new, unexpected addition to the Straw Hat crew.

One Piece: Season Two, Fifth Voyage Overview

The Straw Hats crossed a desert to defend the kingdom of Alabasta, but the real adventure is about to begin! Crocodile and his army of assassins set their sights on King Cobra’s empire, Luffy and his mates get locked in the clink, and a regal imposter leads Vivi’s people towards a bloody uprising. Lucky for Luffy, Sanji and Chopper are still on the loose, and they’ve got a plan to spring their captain from the jaws of ravenous reptiles! While Princess Vivi struggles with the most difficult decision of her life, Monkey D. Luffy takes on the dastardly Crocodile in a deadly desert showdown!

Weeds to me is the modern version of the 70's sitcom Mary Hartman. The story revolved around a dysfunctional fictional community in California and a single mother (played by Mary-Louise Parker) who sells weed to make ends meet. It's tag-line reads "A comedy series about dealing in the suburbs. The actors are talented, comical and compelling. Weeds writers allow unconventional and uncomfortable situations to pervade the plot-line, pulling you in deeper with each successional episode. Thus far, I've only bought seasons one and two, but I know some of what happens in season three and I can't wait. Watch it and you'll know what I mean. Season one is the place to start and since it's some six years old now, it is also affordable. Weeds is a rollercoaster ride you won't want to get off. It just gets better and better. It's a great watch for both men and women and is a guilty pleasure you won't get busted for. I recommend it.

#1 Cheap The Sarah Silverman Program: Season Two, Vol. One Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

The first disc features an audio commentary on "Bored of the Rings" by Laura and Sarah Silverman. They spend too much time watching the episode and not enough time commenting on it. When they do, they point out all of their friends in the supporting roles.

There is a commentary on "Face Wars" by Laura Silverman and Jay Johnston. Again, there is more watching than commentating. They spend most of the time complimenting the performances in this episode.

Sarah and Laura return for the commentary on "Doody." More of the same boring comments. There is an additional commentary by director Rob Schrab and head writer Daniel Sterling. They point out that this episode is the sequel to "Officer Jay" from Season 1. This is easily the chattiest track as the two men enthusiastically dish anecdotes of working on this episode. These guys are funny and informative.

There is a commentary on "Ah, Men" by Brian Posehn and Steve Agee. They point out their friends and co-workers on this disappointing track. There is an additional commentary featuring Schrab and Sterling. They point out that this is the sequel to the Pilot episode. They were never interested in having Sarah's character have a boyfriend because so many other sitcoms do that. This is another funny and informative track.

Finally, Brian and Steve deliver another dull commentary for "Maid to Border."

Disc two starts off with "2007 Comic Con," which features footage of a Q&A session for the cast of the show, moderated by comedian Zach Galifianakis who starts off with some amusing introductions. This is as chaotic and funny as you'd expect as the cast make fun of each other. This is easily the most entertaining and hilarious extra in the set.

Also included are two digital short films with Brian Posehn.

"Cookie Party" features the "Cookies Come Alive!" in three parts and a clip of the video game.

Finally, there are eight behind-the-scenes featurettes with various cast members offering "insights" into what they are up to while making the show. These are all pretty amusing and worth checking out.

The Sarah Silverman Program: Season Two, Vol. One Overview

Movie DVD

1st Season Hard To Duplicate... - Michael L. Grifka - Menlo Park, CA
The 1st season of the SSS was so characteristically Sarah, so self centered, so irreverent, so funny, AND had great rhythm and character development. The 2nd season failed to live up to expectations, emphasizing more generalized juvenile bodily fluid and function humour, and less tangential Sarah-ness. As well, the 1st season was more A line focused, while the 2nd season offers a weaker, more diluted balance between A and B story. I still love the characters, but the writing is not as effective, the use of song almost disappeared. The 1st season is a great, shared in-joke. The 2nd season is different: more of a voyeuristic view into Valley Village: it's less personal, less witty, less funny. The SSS is still very sarah, and this is what we love about the show in the first place, but season 2 may have too many writers, too many contributors, or may have lost the feel of creating greatness on a small comedy budget....

#1 Cheap Martin: The Complete Five Seasons Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This collection is a complete classic. If you want to laugh for hours you must buy this collection. My children who were not born in the Martin era absolutely love this collection and watches often. They walk around the house repeating some of his classic lines. Its too cute. Whenever I'm feeling a little down I pop one of these dvd's in and all my problems are erased. Worth 5 stars for sure.

Martin was outstanding - Olan J. Hasenfuss - The Netherlands
It had been a long time since the Martin show ended and I missed watching the episodes with the different characters that Martin Lawrence portrayed; from Rosco to Jerome. Funny stuff.

#1 Cheap The Longest Yard (Full Screen Edition) Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

"The Longest Yard" (2005 Version) is a remake to the original "The Longest Yard" released in 1974 that starred Burt Reynolds. This time around, comedian Adam Sandler replaces Reynolds in this good remake. "The Longest Yard" also stars Chris Rock, Nelly, James Cromwell, William Foryster, & Burt Reynolds making a return & having a significant role in the movie as well. The movie also has a great deal of former NFL players & WWE wrestlers to portray certain roles in the film such as Michael Irvin, Bob Sapp, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, & Bill Goldberg among others.

The movie starts out with Paul Crewe (Sandler), a former NFL MVP pro quarterback star suspended indefinitely due to shaving points off a football game, goes on a huge wrecking spree as he (while intoxicated) crashes his girlfriend's car while on a big police chase from the cops. This little wrecking spree would indeed send Crewe to Allenville Prison.

While in prison, Warden Hazan (James Cromwell) asks Crewe to be the quarterback for his semi-pro guards football team to win back the championship. Crewe rejects the offer at first & would be given a hard time from the warden until Crewe agrees to do anything that the warden wants. After spending a week in the hot box, the warden gives Crewe another chance to be the quarterback for the guards, however, Crewe comes up with an idea for the guards to have a warm-up game against the inmates before the season starts with Crewe being the quarterback for the inmates. Crewe then gets Caretaker (Rock) & Nate Scarborough (Reynolds) to help him recruit the meanest, ruthless, & biggest inmates for his team.

At first, the inmates only joins the team to get revenge on the guards for the hard time they recieved from the guards while doing their time in prison but as time goes on they earn the respect of each other. When it comes to game day, Crewe just plays the game for the warden but as the game goes on, Crewe realizes he wants to win not only the game but also friendship from his team of inmates. When it is all set & done, Crewe, along with his team of inmates, gets the best of the guards & Warden Hazan.

"The Longest Yard" is a very good remake in contrast to the 1974 original. Though not the greatest football movie, it still holds that football feel to it & is a good movie to view sometime. I recommend this purchase.

The Longest Yard (Full Screen Edition) Overview

THE LONGEST YARD tells the story of pro quarterback Paul Crewe (Sandler) and former college champion and coach Nate Scarboro (Reynolds) who are doing time in the same prison. Asked to put together a team of inmates to take on the guards, Crewe enlists the help of Scarboro to coach the inmates to victory in a football game fixed to turn out quite another way.

The Longest Yard (Full Screen Edition) - Arnita D. Brown - USA
Paul "Wrecking" Crewe was a revered football superstar back in his day, but that time has since faded. But when a messy drunk driving incident lands him in jail, Paul finds he was specifically requested by Warden Hazen, a duplicitous prison official well aware of Paul's athletic skills. Paul has been assigned the task of assembling a team of convicts, to square off in a big football game against the sadistic guards. With the help of fellow convict Caretaker, and an old legend named Nate Scarborough to coach, Crewe is ready for what promises to be a very interesting game. It's only the warden and the guards who have no idea who or what they're up against, with Paul the driving force behind the new team. A good comedy worth seeing. Especially if you are a Sandler fan.

#1 Cheap Duets Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

I watched "Duets" from Encore on demand. This is a quirky film about people who compete for cash on the Karaoke circuit. There are three main K teams in this movie. Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis a father/daughter team, Paul Giamatti and Andre Braugher; a burned out salesman and escaped convict, Maria Bello and Scott Spellman; a part time hooker and cab driver, all converge at a Karaoke contest in Omaha, Nebraska.

Many reviewers are correct about having to suspend disbelief. In the opening scene Huey Lewis out Cockers Joe Cocker and hustles 0 to boot. We're are asked to accept Gwyneth Paltrow as Huey Lewis' daughter. Paul Giammatti belts out an acceptable "Hello It's Me" in his first Karaoke outing. So why did I like this? The unexpected happens.

We have the scene of a dangerous hitchhiker in the middle of nowhere seeming more sane than the driver. A salesman, played by Giamatti, comes home his wife, she rebuffs him and Giamatti mentions that he has to go out and buy a pack of cigarettes. Scott Spellman, playing a cab driver, is picking up his childhood teacher from the police station. The teacher then berates him as an underachiever. She's dressed in her bathrobe and has been charged with shoplifting BTW. When she is dropped off he mentions that he isn't an underachiever, that he's working on harmony.

I like Paul Giamatti in any movie. He has played such a diversity of roles from President John AdamsJohn Adams (HBO Miniseries) to an English teacher/wine aficionado in SidewaysSideways (Widescreen Edition). Huey Lewis also showed that he can act as well as sing. Gwyneth Paltrow is less believable as an ingenue and daughter of Huey Lewis. There just doesn't seem to be that big of an age gap to be father/daughter. Angie Dickinson also does a great star turn as Gwyneth Paltrow's grandmother. Maria Bello did a good turn as the Emerson quoting hooker.

I know this is a movie. However, couldn't they have at least one of the characters just think they could sing like Otis Redding but, in actuality sound like the everyday Karaoke singers with which we've had experience?

There are so many odd moments I thought of such Altman type films as Gosford ParkGosford Park, and Cookie's FortuneCookie's Fortune. Duets inserted the theater of the absurd into everyday life.

Duets Overview

Academy Award(R)-winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Best Actress, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY) and Scott Speedman (TV's FELICITY) are part of the stellar ensemble cast in a hilariously offbeat comedy! The lives of six stranges become outrageously intertwined when a riotous road trip culminates at the site of the national Karaoke championships. As they compete for the ,000 grand prize, this unlikely group will eventually learn all about each other ... while discovering answers to the questions about themselves! Also featuring great performances from Maria Bello (COYOTE UGLY), Andre Braugher (FREQUENCY), Paul Giamatti (BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE), and Huey Lewis (SHADOW OF DOUBT) -- you'll agree with audiences everywhere who fell in love with this uncommonly entertaining comedy!

#1 Cheap My Name Is Bill W Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

My Name is Bill W. is in our film library at A Home Away Retreat. It is required watching for our guests as they begin to learn about the disease of alcoholism, and to learn about the solution to the disease. Like personal favorite family stories, or beloved stories from Scripture, the Bill W. story never seems to become stale. Although the co-founders of AA worked very hard to stay humble and anonymous, inevitably for people who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body, the story of AA's birth and early days has an iconic reverence to it. We love to tell it, read it and watch it again and again.

I have the pleasure of hearing the Bill W. movie reviewed very regularly by our guests, and it is always well-received and enthusiastically discussed. As our guests struggle with the damage of alcoholism in themselves, watching James Wood and James Garner portray with empathy and compassion the co-founders, they begin to accept themselves a little bit more. My favorite scene in the film is when Bill W. is coming off a bender, and he standing by his living room window, staring out at it. His wife, and co-founder of Alanon, Lois asks Bill, "Why do you do it?". Bill looks at her with such dismay and resignation and answers truthfully, "I don't know". The point just drives home, that there was no recovery program for Bill W. or Dr Bob to phone up and ask for the nearest meeting. They were doomed to an alcoholic death - until their divine intervention.

A great film, well acted, sensitive, and true to the story of the Bill Wilson as I understand it.

Very moving... - Kelly - Novato, CA
I thought the movie was very moving. I am a new OA member (just under a year in program) and I felt it would be important for me to not only read and understand the Big Book, but also to see the movie and understand more about Bill W.'s story. I love James Woods and James Garner, so it was a real pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it!

#1 Cheap Corrina, Corrina Reviews

Special Price Today Go To Store!! (Limited Time Offer)

This is a interracial movie that is not heavy handed. Corrina (Whoopi Goldberg) needs a job. She has a college education, but can't find anything other than domestic work. Hey, it's the fifties. Manny (Ray Liotta) has lost his wife and is grieving. He needs a housekeeper. In comes Corrina. There are scenes in this movie that really did it for me. First Molly the daughter does not talk, unable to understand why her mommy is gone. She continually plays a portion of a song her mother started teaching her and stares at her mother's picture. Corrina waits until Manny leaves and sits down and plays the song with Molly. This is the act that helps Molly to open up. Manny starts falling for Corrina and isn't even aware of it. His parents can see it coming and so can her sister. His mom watches at Molly's party (Jenny not invited) as he takes a cigarette she's smoking and puts it in his mouth. Corrina stays at the Singer household way past what is considered normal and does not even request overtime. When Corrina becomes jealous when Manny's friend Jenny shows up uninvited, she threatens to quit.
The smirk on Manny's face when she gives her 'time and a half for overtime' speech lets the audience know that there's more feelings between them than just a working relationship. The kiss under the moonlight as they dance was one of the most romantic I have seen in movies in a long time. It is his father's death that makes him realize how much he misses Corrina and wants her in his life. When Jenny takes the vase that Corrina had broken and glued back together, Manny protests saying that he likes the cracks. Unable to convince Jenny and not willing to tell her why he really wants the vase to remain as is (because it reminds him of Corrina) he takes it from her and smashes it. Manny coming to get Corrina in the end and her letting him know that she would not return as his employee opened the door to the beginning of them publicly acknowledging their relationship first to her family and then to his. The only downside was the ending. I wish they had showed the conversation between Corrina, Manny and his mother that was at the end of the credits.
