As a Nancy Drew fan since about the age of 8, I had a lot of expectations for this movie. Some things were just out of sync- take the age of the characters. Nancy Drew is out of high school in the books. Ned is in college in the books. The main characters for the movie, have been made younger. (Nancy's hair is reddish blonde in the books- not red.)
New Nancy Drew still drives her classic blue roadster. Her clothes are more from the books, so she stands out. She is very smart and is a great detective. Some parts of the movie are very unbelievable, but all in all it is a family friendly movie. My nephews both enjoyed it.
I would rate it a 3 1/2 stars.

Nancy Drew Overview
With her magnifying glass and fingerprint powder in hand, Nancy Drew leaves River Heights for La-La-Land...but not to meet that guy on Smallville, as her boyfriend Ned fears. No, she's out to solve one of the greatest mysteries ever: the death of movie star Dehlia Draycott. But the bigger mystery is how our perky, plaid-clad sleuth will fit in with the text-messaging teen queens of mean she meets at Hollywood High.

My 8-yr-old watched this movie DOZENS of times in the first week we owned it! - Jaret - Long Island, New York
My 8-yr-old recently discovered Nancy Drew and loves her! She's a bit too young to fully comprehend the book series (she has no trouble reading the books but doesn't yet completely grasp the big picture of what she's reading) so we recently rented (and then purchased) the Nancy Drew movie. The outcome? She LOVED it. Literally watched it a dozen times in the first week we got it! Nice family fun movie! You can read some of the other reviews for details on the characters but all in all even I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would! Highly recommended.
