Available at Amazon Limited Special Price!! See Now!!

I just viewed my new purchase of "La Fille du Régiment." Every singer was superb in this performance. Just to listen to Flórez sing the nine high Cs in "Ah! mes amis," was a delight. It was pure perfection, and what a voice! One thing that surprised me was the DVD that I received from Amazon had a format of 16:9, not 1.33:1 as it was described at Amazon. If I had known that I would have bought it a long time ago. Along with "La Fille" I also bought the Met performance of "La Bohème." It was also an amazing performance with all the magnificent staging that the Metropolitan is famous for. The DVD also included the back stage activity that went on during the intermission. Quite interesting to watch. These 2 operas are quite stunning. I recommend them.

Gaetano Donizetti - La Fille du regiment / Dessay, Florez, Palmer, Corbelli, French, Campanella, Pelly (Royal Opera House 2007) Overview

In January 2007, superstar soprano Natalie Dessay, joined on stage by acclaimed tenor Juan Diego Florez dazzled British audiences in Laurent Pelly's new production of Donizetti's "LA FILLE DU REGIMENT". The perfectly staged & cast production became the operatic event of the year, receiving rave press reviews & rapturous audience ovations.

Comic perfection! Dessay and Florez shine. - Mrs. Beeton - New York, NY
I'm an opera enthusiast, but haven't previously owned one on DVD until this. I saw the live Met production and last year a Live in HD rebroadcast - now I have the DVD to savor. Dessay absolutely shines in this opera - her timing and expressions are unbelievable! Watching the live production, I saw Florez get a standing ovation that wouldn't stop until an encore (!) was sung - he's that amazing. The staging, cast and orchestra are wonderful - I couldn't more highly recommend this version. On a more mundane note, the recording is crisp and well-produced, allowing the viewer to really experience the great moments up close.
